4. I can't imagine what you imagined, but I feel like Max Beckmann in this painting.
I'm going to hang up my horn though.

Thanks for all the great chemistry discussions over the years.

9. Well, where facts are shy, unwarranted assumptions step in swinging ...
so my subconscious kept telling me you should look a lot like your avatar, maybe minus the hairstyle.

I can't claim to have read a lot of FD's quotes, but the ones I've seen witness an uncompromising use of language. By the pathetic fallacy, you would resemble him in appearance as well.

I've enjoyed the chemistry discussions and have learned a few things from your posts about nuclear science and engineering, especially the Molten Salt Reactor (eavesdroppers -- it's real, wiki it). When my career finally settles down (read: reasonably permanent job) I have quite a few references to delve into more deeply, thanks to you.

Keep a close eye on those kids of yours. As a sort of "sputtered-out ex-prodigy" I appreciated your lounge posts on the challenges of raising bright, inquisitive children. I don't know what the best approach is, but I wish there were more options open to such kids. Friends of mine sent their daughter to Stanford's Education Program for Gifted Youth http://epgy.stanford.edu/ and are happy with it. I wish something like that had existed back in the day.

2. My dear NNadir...
Sorry I didn't see this sooner...

I've been wallowing in election results (mostly to my sorrow) in GD, and have just now come over here for some relief.

This is a sad little painting...

The artist looks unhappy, maybe uncomfortable...

The colors are harsh too.

Still, I'm glad you posted it tonight!

:hi:

museums, confiscating more than 500 of his paintings.

I will be leaving this website for a long time I think, and the last two paintings I posted here seemed apropos for my decision.

Thank you for all your kindnesses over the years.

12. glad to learn you're still alive, anyway.
Last I saw of you was over at DKos - you posted something about a rare cancer and then went silent.
Then today Charles Barton mentioned that you post here now.

I have 11 months of awesome NNadir posts to read here before I need to track you down again!

7. I was at the Neue Galerie last night
That particular piece was not on display. Instead there was a special Otto Dix exhibit.
A lot of Klimts were on display too.

Is there a reason why you picked this piece to show us?
