Serious question. What is wrong with Pepsodent?
It has fluoride, it says it fights cavities and whitens teeth and strengthens enamel. Why is it 99 cents, while all the other toothpastes start at $2.50?

1. Nothing is wrong with it. They don't spend a shitload on advertising.
That's what we use, partially because of the price but also because it isn't sickeningly sweet like the advertised brands. There's nothing wrong with store brand oat rings either. They're less than half of the price of Cheerios because you're paying more for the advertising than the food when you buy Cheerios.

5. I like the taste.
I guess we're a Pepsodent family now, too. :)

We buy generic oat rings all the time. Tried to buy a generic Honey Bunches of Oats, though, and it was disappointing.

Thanks for the input.

9. Same. here. I like Pepsodent because it it JUST TOOTHPASTE
I don't want sparkly gels, any cool flavors, bright colors, pretty ribbons in a tube, you name it. I JUST WANT TOOTHPASTE. :)

I really like my cheap Pepsodent, and I rinse with hyrdogen peroxide afterwards, and today my dentist asked me what teeth whitening system I use, and I told him I don't. :)

11. LOL! Yeah, bubblegum pop music is bad enough - I don't need it in my toothpaste.

6. I haven't seen it, but I haven't looked.
Wasn't that a gel, though? I don't like gels, personally.

4. You'll wonder where your teeth all went, When you brush them with Pepsodent!
C'mon, you don't remember the spoofs of their old commercials? ;)

The real reason is that the brand collapsed when everyone else went to flouride pastes and they didn't. By the time they realized their mistake and added it, they'd already lost nearly all of their marketshare. To survive, Pepsodent became a discount brand.

Oh, and stay away from the similarly named Cooldent and other cheapies made in China. They've been popped a couple of times now for putting antifreeze in their toothpaste as a "sweetener".

8. Interesting....
I don't remember that jingle, but that story does explain things. I did find myself looking at the label to make sure it had fluoride, because I vaguely remembered it didn't...But that was from a loooong time ago.

Very interesting history lesson.

Antifreeze killed one of our dogs long ago because of the sweet, attractive taste. I appreciate the warning.
