(Well, there was a $26 oil change and 500 mile break-in maintence...)
Since February, a 125cc Genuine Buddy scooter similar to the one pictured above has been our "second vehicle" (for my commuting/local shopping) and even though it's not Freeway legal,it can get up to 60 mph and gets about 75mpg with my largish tush going up and down rather steep hills. I only have to start out on my commute to work about 10 minutes earlier than I used to when Laz was driving me to work, because I'm traveling surface streets instead of freeway.
Not only has putting gas in it only cost us $35 over the past 5 months, we've been saving about $10 -$15 a week on gas for our old Focus, as well as saving wear and tear.
The kidlet, who is bothering us about getting her a car (like all her non-working friends have apparently gotten from indulgent parents who don't have a crap-load of medical bills) is still a bit too afraid to get on one, though which is a pity - it's much cheaper to purchase new (and it's got a two year warranty with roadside assistance), insure, and drive. I told her I'd be happy to help her get a good scooter, the license, and insurance, but she wants to be able to be-bop out all day and night with a bunch of friends in a kick'n set of wheels rather than actually consider having any reliable, affordable vehicle to she could actually get around in.
Anyway, 1000 miles for $35! Woohoo!
