American Movie Classucks
I can remember when AMC was a decent channel, but now:

1. AMC interrupts the movies with ads.

2. The movies are cut.

3. The movies are panned and scanned.

4. Extraneous messages are posted at the bottom of the screen (during what's left of a movie).

5. Did I forget anything?

Now I watch Turner Classic Movies (TCM) instead of AMC.

1. I still have a few movies on VHS that I taped from their glory days...
...including a marathon of every Hope & Crosby "Road" movie.

When they went to commercials...and started airing heavily-censored versions of "R" rated movies...I stopped watching. Too bad, because they were BETTER than TCM back in the day. Turner held exclusive rights to some classic movies, but the format of the pre-sellout AMC kicked TCM's ASS.

4. That's how I remember it as well.
In fact, didn't AMC get started in opposition to Turner's colorization of classic films? Showing complete and unexpurgated films was their deal. I hate the channel now.

5. Yes, it was a deliberate effort to return to the "purity" of American Cinema.
I remember host Bob Dorian...what a great guy. And I also remember the selling points of AMC in its prime as being uncut, commercial-free, and without colorization.

7. I remember him too.
Your photo reminded me. He always had something interesting to say about each movie.

2. Answer to #5
They're no longer "classics" just the same old shit that plays on every other channel.

3. Yep. And even worse is that they keep showing that same old shit over and over.

6. You can even watch in in high definition,
but that's no improvement.

8. Not their fault. Their access to films has shrunken because of mega corps like Warner Bros-MGM, etc

11. You are right. Turner didn't want the competition when they came up with
their own classics channel to show the film library Ted Turner bought. I remember when you could watch old movies on the late, late show, or on the Big Money Movie in the afternoon. Now there's nothing but talk shows and infomercials

10. Either they were goaded by Gordon Gecko,
or they succumbed to the Dark Side of the Force. ;)

12. There is one good thing about AMC: Mad Men

Unfortunately it only runs 3 or 4 months out of the year...

13. AMC
Besides commercials, the guy who programs the commercials does so with a stopwatch. Commercial placement in some of these movies is unbelievably bad.
