Any appliance repair people here?
I have a whirlpool range about 12 years old or so, with pilotless ignition. The upper broiler burner will light but the lower oven burner won't. I replaced the glow bar ignitor on the lower burner about christmas time so it's less than 6 months old. The glow bar lights up nice and bright but no gas comes out of the burner. :shrug;

1. Thermocouple?
If the thermocouple does not detect the heat of the glow bar it will not let the gas turn on.

2. That was the first thing I looked for
If it has one, I sure can't see it. I'm not very good with this new fangled stuff, I was a lot better with the old pilot light stuff

3. I think it has to have one.
Thinking it through it would be very bad if it were to release gas to the burners when the "pilot" or glow bar were out. There could be ways electronically to monitor the glow bar circuit but the one sure proof way is to use a thermocouple to detect the presence of heat.

Try googling your model and see if you can get some specifics.

5. the valves work on this strange thing called a bimetal valve or something like that
there is a thermostat for the oven temp, but it doesn't have much to do with getting the thing lit in the first place

4. were you very careful to not touch the glow bar when you installed the new one?
from my reading around, that can cause them to prematurely burn out

also they can glow fine and still not work

after that you start going into other parts and so far I haven't had to deal with them yet, but boy do I know more than I want about glow bars!

You can try putting the working broiler one in the lower spot if they are the same to test it, and if you want I can look up the website I got mine from - cheapest I found at least for my Hot Point. Just remember not to touch the glow bar itself.

6. I didn't touch the element
There was a big warning on the instructions that came with it. I hope it didn't burn out already, it was $65 :wow:

I'd appreciate a link to that parts site

Thanks :)

that is why my stove remained broken for almost a year, then I found it cheaper at a couple of sites

this guy seems a little right wing, but he was nice by e-mail http://www.davesrepair.com/DIYhelp/DIYovenignitors.htm

here is where I got mine http://www.theignitorstore.com/ (and they did NOT send my free wine opener x( )

9. We've used this place to order parts. They have a repair forum
that's been helpful for us.
