Maybe the best band from the Bay area in the early 1970's, back to life again in the past few years;

Janis Joplin recommended them for a job at the old Filmore in SF. The band is incredible - jazz/funk/Latin/blues with percussion and horns, great musians and a superb singer in Lydia Pense, one of the best live vocalists I have ever heard.
They have a live CD out somewhere if you like this one, and studio music released in '05.

I never have seen her live though....She played at a local casino about a year and a half ago, and I was planning to go, but wasn't feeling well that night... and I was supposed to deliver a hello to her from a mutual friend ( yeah, another name-drop--except this is just a friend of hers; like I said, I've never even seen her much less met her. but dammit, probably would have if I'd gone that night)........... hopefully she'll get back out this way...I've recommended this song to more than one of my female singer friends over the years but none of em ever picked up on it. Damn shame; it really is a classic , isn't it?

2. I just heard the band for the first time recently - they really struck me.

I am amazed they got such little recognition over the decades - and I'm glad they are recording and playing again.

She is really amazing-there are several live clips on Youtube under her name, but with the band.
