With some other stuff, like story lines thrown in. They're good story lines too.

38. Frank's Place blazed the trail
ironically, the reason you can't see it in reruns is the music itself: it would have been prohibitively costly to re-license it, much of which consisted of originals by Louisiana artists. :(

45. "Frank's Place" is an almost unknown...
.
...DIAMOND -- excellent writing, music, acting -- FAR ahead
of its time and almost certainly too good for the medium in
which it was presented.
.
Who knew, after only seeing him as "Venus Flytrap", that
Tim Reid was so exceptionally talented.
.
WAY too short a run. Very few cancellations have actually
"saddened" me.
.
That was one of them.
.
A show with lots of heart and compassion and intelligence.
.
It won the Humanitas Prize in 1988 for the "30-minute
Category".
.
From Wikipedia: The Humanitas Prize is an award for film and
television writing intended to promote human dignity, meaning,
and freedom.
.
Yeah...it was OK, I guess.

It was way too good for the typical TV viewer, I guess, given its short run.

4. Lots to sink your teeth into in Peter Rugolo's music for "The Fugitive".
Stravinsky-esque tone clusters in much of the incidental music.

The best stuff wasn't necessarily based on the theme as represented in these clips, but it does give you a flavor.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhUZomnm3E4

There is also Lalo Schifrin's theme to "Mannix" which is kick ass.

8. I Have West Wing-ophilia, so...
Edited on Sat May-22-10 09:25 AM by GirlAfire
...naturally, I have to vote West Wing.

I was blown away when I heard "Brothers in Arms" by Dire Straits in the scene in which the POTUS announced his decision to run for a second term.

I don't really watch Criminal Minds, but I think they have some great music. I heard Opeth on one of the episodes! You can't go wrong with Opeth.

I forgot about FotC. My favorite has to be "Albi the Racist Dragon" or "It's Business Time" or "Most Beautiful Girl" or ... "Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros" There are so many!

I should make "Be more constructive with your feedback. Please" my signature.

EDIT: Now I'm listening to "Ladies of the World" :D

13. The best marraige of TV and music is in Aaron Sorkin shows...
But especially in this episode of Studio 60 On The Sunset strip...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJ0RI_Iv4WM&feature=related.
The New Orleans episode. If that don't get you going nothing will.

The West Wing used music so well too, the way the music would be part of the whole deal, like the Wiffenpoofs and Yo Yo Ma...

.
...that was exceptional and seemed to mysteriously
STOP dead in its tracks when it was only getting
better and better.
.
I remember that the closing songs were extremely
eclectic and always fascinating.

Really enjoying some of the options, but it seems costly for what you get

and anything else written by Mr. Television Theme Song, Mike Post.

A ton of GOOD TV music. Unfortunately, a lot of talent was wasted on some less then sterling shows. You decide which ones were the clunkers: Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law, Law & Order, The A-Team, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Blossom, CHiPs, The Commish, Doogie Howser, M.D., Hardcastle & McCormick, Hooperman, Hunter, MacGyver, Magnum, P.I., NewsRadio, Profit, Quantum Leap, Remington Steele, Renegade, Riptide, Silk Stalkings, Stingray, Tenspeed and Brown Shoe, Wiseguy and the BBC series Roughnecks.

alas, sort of like with Frank's Place, licensing issues interfered with its syndication; any rerun you see will have been dubbed with more licensing-friendly music, ruining classic moments like Les Nessman trying on his brand-new rug to the strains of Foreigner's "Hot Blooded"!
