Do you ever call back the wrong numbers who leave messages on your answering machine?
Sometimes, they sound important. And if I think it's going to be a real problem, I call them and let them know they fucked up the dialing.

Sometimes it sounds crucial. Lots of times, it seems to be medical people calling to confirm appointments. Sometimes, people sound a little desperate to reach someone, but get my phone instead.

I feel like I have to call them, because time seems like a real issue. And people can get into deep trouble sometimes.

The drunks I just blow off though.

Is this common?

I would prefer not having the responsibility of being involved.

But I do anyway.

1. Our old number was a digit off from meals on wheels
One old lady called us several times to complain about the meal and how bad the roast beef was. I called Meals on Wheels and told them that the lady didn't like the meal and asked if they could get her to dial the right number.

3. yep
one of those karma things - I often leave messages on systems that don't clearly identify who you are calling - while mine DOES, people still get it wrong sometimes so I just hope if I ever leave a message at the wrong number they will call me back and tell me.

People, I know your privacy is important, but c'mon - a hint of who I have reached? Please?

4. I do when it sounds important.
But sometimes the person leaving a message doesn't leave his number, and then there's nothing I can do about it.

5. Years ago (before caller ID) my father answered the phone,
and a women shreiked, "I'm pregnanant you son of a bitch!"

Nonplussed, my father (80+ years old) said, "Pardon me?"

"Are you deaf too, you bastard?" Hung up.

Dad always wondered when and how the father to be found out the news.

7. The weirdest wrong number message I ever got was from some
guy in Oklahoma announcing he had left a frozen turkey on the doorstep of the person he was intending to call and to hurry up and bring it inside before it defrosted and spoiled. I called his number several times but got no answer. Hope the recipient found the turkey before it was too late.

9. I might, were the circumstance to occur
It has never happened, however. Apparently its not only me that dosn't get calls, but my un-call-worthyness covers all those with digits similar to mine, thus preventing even any accidental calls from reaching me.

10. (1) they have to leave a call back number; (2) it has to sound serious; and
(3) I only do it once: repeat mistakes are not my responsibility

Hi. We haven't heard back from you about our 50th college reunion -- I'll call back and tell them they have the wrong number; but if they call again after that, it's their problem

11. Yes.
if it sounds urgent.

My favorite mistake call(s) were the three successive ones I received around 2 a.m. a few years ago. Some guy, er, some drunk ass guy, incoherently cussing out my answering machine only to be interrupted long enough to place his order at Taco Bell.

13. Like you, I'll call back if it sounds important...
...just to let them know they dialed the wrong number.

It's quite painless.

15. Only if it's something important.
What I don't understand is this:

I try to call someone and misdial. When it's obviously I've gotten a wrong number, I hang up. Pretty soon, someone calls me saying someone from my number just tried to call them based on their caller ID.

If I don't recognize a number on my caller ID and someone didn't leave a message, I don't call them back. I just assume it's a wrong number. I don't call to see who it is. :eyes:
