My poor doggie was freaking today. We had Sixty Mile An Hour Wind Gusts

and she is terrified of the sound of wind for some reason. She whines, paces, crawls under furniture for awhile, and then gets up and starts the process all over again, at the next big gust. I am usually able to calm her down by playing the digital music stations on TV really loud. Only today the cable was down for about four hours, and the stereo didn't seem to work for her like the TV..

She must not care for soft rock. She loves the elevator music channel on TV though. She lays right down and starts snoring. T.V. shows with people talking work too. At night if its windy, I set the sleep timer for a couple of hours, but if its still windy when it goes off she actually comes over to me and wakes me up with a paw to the back of my head, or a lot of loud whines. I reset it and then she goes back and lays down and goes to sleep again. Its kind of funny.

Its going to be a long night because though the gusts aren't supposed to be as strong they are going to continue all night. Oh well I will just leave the TV on, and not even bother with the sleep timer.

Plus the sound of the furnace might help block the wind too, as its only 34 degrees right now, I am sure it will be coming on all night.

Well good night all and wish me luck!

1. 75 mph gusts here the other day Sustained winds at 40-50 MPH

Those without metal roofs are sorta looking for parts of their roofs now. Trucker was stuck in overturned semi (pulling two EMPTY trailers at the time) for three hours while rescue workers chopped through twisted metal to get him out.

Oddly, the power stayed on.

The dog spent the day under the oak desk. Cat denned up in the linen closet.

2. That had to be awful for that poor trucker.
Our power only blinked once but it stayed on. Just the cable and by extension my internet connection were down.

I saw on the news tonight that trees ended up on roofs and cars.

Glad your dog and cat found comforting spaces to ride out the storm.

4. We had winds like that here today..
luckily my dogs don't even notice. My power blinked out twice, but came right back. Didn't lose cable/internet though.

Your poor dog, I hope she gets through the night ok.

Wishing you lot's of luck!

6. Thank you. We did okay.

Luckily the power and the cable stayed on, so I did end up just letting it play all night. Plus the winds died down some so she was able to settle down and we both got a good night's rest.

I am glad you didn't end up loosing your power either. That's good your dog's don't notice. Maxie is fine through thunder and lightening which our previous Shepard was terrified of, with her its just the wind.

Thanks again!

7. I admit it scared me a couple of times when it shook the house.
I passed along the hug. She's fine today. She's snoozing in the corner right now. I think she tired herself out yesterday.

Thanks!

8. A strong breeze at the beach is nice.
I don't care very much for the really strong wind gusts either. I'm always afraid the trees are going to topple on the house. They showed on the news today that it did happen to a number of people's homes. Plus there were a few parked cars that had trees on top of them too. The good thing is nobody got hurt. The wind is back down to a fairly normal speed tonight, we only have to deal with temps in the lower 30's and a likely frost. It snowed this morning too but nothing stuck. So overall both the dog and I are both much happier.

Thanks.

9. My cat was behaving like your dog in the lead up to a hurricane. He was trying to get me
to hide in the closet with him. I closed the windows tight and the cat calmed down completely. I think it is the air pressure that gets them upset.
