WTF does this WinDoze 7 icon mean?
booted up my laptop this afternoon, and my normal networking icon was replaced with this (circled in red). I have internet access- everything seems to be fine. What gives?

2. yes- connected wirelessly....
I haven't purposely disabled the ethernet card...

4. I don't think I've ever plugged this laptop in...
and I've never seen that icon before. It's usually the wireless icon.

5. Most likely a Windoze update changed a setting.
On of the problems with M$ updates is that they constantly change settings either back to default or to a new default without letting you know or asking.

7. I hate that shit.
Especially since many of those "default settings" are absolutely useless to any home user, and there's no logical reason to enable them - unless Micro$oft is deliberately trying to leave vulnerabilities open in the operating system. But that would mean they might use such vulnerabilities themselves. And surely they would never do that. :sarcasm:

Yeah, you can shove remote registry right up your ass, Steve Ballmer.
