More boomer TV - Run For Your Life
This show starred Ben Gazzara as a lawyer who had only a year to live. He decided to quit his practice and spend his last year traveling. It was kind of a morbid version of Route 66. I loved this show, but most people don't remember it.

2. I remembered it as soon as you mentioned it

By the way, I saw Route 66 reruns two years ago in, of all places, Tokyo!

I left the TV on as I was washing up before bedtime, and all of a sudden, there was Nelson Riddle's famous theme music.

Yup, it was Route 66 all right, augmented with very sketchy Japanese subtitles, which was unusual, because most of the few U.S. programs that show up on Japanese TV are dubbed.
