Show your desktop!
I enjoy doing this every once in a while (mostly 'cause I'm bored and looking for graphics ideas...)

4. Many different ways
I personally use an ancient Win95/98 version of a graphics program called LView Pro. It has a Capture Desktop function. There are many capture utilities out there, a good many of them freeware. I'm sure someone will be along shortly to recommend one.

Edited on Thu Mar-25-04 11:42 PM by Prisoner_Number_Six
I just finished an install of Suse Pro 9 a few minutes ago, and would love to have that shell if available. Slick as s**t!

On edit: I see the Windows Recycle Bin so know it is not Linux. It's still cool!

24. I hate not having the toolbar right there,
and I don't like the "toolbar appears when I move the mouse down there" option, so that's always there.

And currently I'm working on a few photo project tings, so I have a few folders on the desktop that wouldn't normally be there, but it makes working much faster.

But I totally agree with you - a cluttered desktop is a nightmare. I'm totally into making as many folders as are necessary to make all my information coherently organized and accesible.

28. I know that
I haven't noticed a slowdown from too many icons on my XP desktop, but I have a different philosophy and no cool wallpaper to look at.

I do tons of web stuff and school stuff using my computer. I've run about fifty different programs in the last 24 hours. All were accessible from my desktop, as are all my filing and backup chores. I perform so much activity when computing, that even if there is a performance hit I save so much time NOT clicking around in the start menu and explorer that any performance hit is worth it.

SCREEN: Current tasks to the left (except for current working URLs which I keep to the right), filing and backing up on the bottom, monster task bar on the right

Take a screen shot of current desktop, make screen shot your new desktop, take another screen shot of the desktop inside the desktop, and so on and so on, until you lose too much reolution to go on. It will seriously mess with your head.

33. Another fun trick
Pull this one on a friends computer. Take a screen shot with some windows open. Save it to disk. Replace their wallpaper with the screen shot. See how long it takes before they realize they cannot close the open windows. Extra points if they wind up rebooting.

The picture of Ann is kind of like that -- you don't really see anything naughty, but -- you know -- Ann-Margret at 28 or 30 was just glorious (to say nothing about earlier in "Bye Bye Birdie" and "Viva Las Vegas"). You always post the best photos, SoCal, and have ever since we both got here all those months ago. Thanks.
John
TRIVIA: Ann-Margret and Don Rumsfeld went to the same high school (New Trier, outside Chicago). Rock Hudson and current music diva/cutie Liz Phair went there, too.

How the hell do I get rid of that unknown ~ file icon (lower right corner)? It popped up when I re-installed Internet Explorer, every time I try to "send" it elsewhere, it reappears. If I try to delete it, I get a warning. You computer builders, HELP - I can't live with this.

Find out what the heck it's pointing too. If for some reason it has to be there (shouldn't be) you can then point it to a real Icon that you can live with.
