Was she hitting on me?
I was sitting in my office when a new co-worker walked by. She asked if she could come in to look at a poster I have in my office (Van Gogh). She told me that she has seen the poster from the hallway a couple times but she wanted a closer look.
I told her that my girlfriend purchased a bunch of posters and that I didn't have the time to put them all up. I told her I put one up in the office and the rest were in a box.
We talked a little bit about impressionism and about Rembrandt.
She introduced herself and told me she was glad to finally meet me.
She then left to go back to her orientation meeting.

Q: Do people ever just chit chat like that? I know that I never went out of my way like that unless I was interested in some way. What say you, DU?

5. Possibly not.
It's so rare to find anyone with a appreciation for culture that she was probably interested in finding one. Some of my coworkers, if you mentioned a Van Gogh to them they'd ask if that was a beard.

7. An intelligent conversation?
Where can I get one of those?

Given the info in your post, though, I think the poster just caught her eye. But keep us posted if more develops. ;)

8. Maybe. Maybe not. But if you are smart
you'll assume that she wasn't.

9. I'm a middle aged woman. I've chatted like that many times over the years.
I don't consider such chit chats as hitting on anyone.

But the fact that you may have lets me know why I got some strange reactions from men over the years when I stopped to chat with them or welcome them to the firm. I was doing the same thing I did with female co-workers. Never crossed my mind they'd consider it flirting. But now I'm thinking that some probably did.

When a woman hits on you, you pretty much know it. If you have to wonder, it's probably not a hit. Women are generally speaking more verbal, I think, and like to chat sometimes. No ulterior motive.

11. She's new to the office and trying to be friendly, IMO
And knows you have a girlfriend now. I think she's just a nice person. Wish that when I worked in an office, folks were that civil, male or female.
