6. Eastasia has always been our ally
We have always been at war with Eurasia.

Big Brother says so.

Ignorance is Strength.

2. Winston Smith had a cage of rats strapped to his face...

Last I saw of that book it was sliding down a memory hole to the furnace in the MiniTruth basement...

I vaguely remember something.... :)

5. Funny thing
I don't recall gun rights issues being a part of 1984.

That doesn't diminish its value as a novel, or the worth (or lack of it) of firearms rights, but I thought Winston Smith was sent to Room 101 for the thoughtcrime of love -- and just because Big Brother could do whatever.

7. No, however, I don't think the issue was directly mentioned
I would assume though that Big Brother would not allow it's citizens to have guns.

8. Why not?
I mean, as long as the Party had even MORE and BIGGER guns...

Saddam Hussein encouraged, nay, DEMANDED that all of his citizens had guns. Does that make him a democratic leader. Don't think so.

9. It's been a while since I read it...
However I do not remember any mention of guns, virtually at all.

Even if the party has better guns, as long as the common citizenry has guns they can try to rebel.

10. He was sent for the thoughtcrime of thinking
I caused so much havoc when I was a kid.

I think my parents may have preferred if I did ordinary stuff like shoplifting and burning down the barn.

No.

I engaged in psychological warfare. One time they had visitors with little kids along so I drove one of their kids to utter madness by claiming a different value for the sum of two and two, then dragged out 1984 to "prove" it. They had no idea how to punish me or even what to punish me for.

These days I just claim that "addition" is a logical fallacy because you cannot swear to the veracity of "unity".
