A new poem: At The Beach
I was down at the beach today
the waves were kicked up by the
wind
choppy water bronzed by the
sun
storm’s comin’ in

it isn’t often I can smell the waves
but today I surely did
the wonderful briny taste
that the wind creates
as it blows over the
ocean’s skin

this must be how it used to
be
long before we conquered these shores
long before we polluted these waves
with our oil
and our trash

I stood and savored it a moment
stood with a smile on my face
breathing it in so deeply
feeling it make my heart
race

then my errand pulled me away
pulled me away from the shore
pulled me away from the waves so bronze
and the smell of the water it bore
pulled me back to this world we’ve made
down at the fragrant shore

I went my way and forgot that scent
that the water had made
Still knowing it was a gift to me
from the shore and the beach and
the waves

1. That's beautiful, Peggy
reminiscent of Wordsworth (one of my favorites)

2. My dear ashling!
Ah, thank you, sweetie!

I'm not sure I'd agree though...

Wordsworth is one of my favorites too, and I am far from being in his league!

This is really not in my usual style...this is more doggerel than normally, lol...

I just felt like posting it!

4. My dear lunatica...
Well, what can I say, but thank you!

This poem just showed up pretty much as written, and I thought it's so different from my "normal" stuff, but still I wanted to write it down...

It's National Poetry Month, and poets are supposed to try and write a poem every day.

So I am...

I wasn't heavily invested in this one, and so I'm pleased you enjoyed it!

:hi:

I'm digging the heart!

9. My dear Haole Girl...
Ah, sweetie, I'm sorry it did that...

I've lived by the ocean for such a long time now, that I can't live anywhere else...

You're welcome...

12. Fantastic.
I see you're coming to terms with the process of stretching yourself and expanding past what you keep thinking of as your limitations.

Very soon now you will begin to realize you HAVE no limitations.

13. My dear Prisoner_Number_Six...
but...but......but I DO have limitations...

If I think of myself as free of those, then I get scared. I really do.

That much power is almost too much for me to contemplate...

I am stretching myself, though; this is true.

I thank you for your very kind, thoughtful words...

14. I remember thast smell!
That took me back many years to a place I visited with a boyfriend of mine. His grandmother lived in a little cottage at the beach. Back then, the place was nothing but dunes and rustic, tiny beach houses. The nearest grocery store was miles away inland. No restaurants, no nothing.

Now it's condos, restaurants and mini golf. "Nothing gold can stay." *sigh*

Lovely, Peggy!

16. My dear Phentex!
Isn't it a great smell? We get it so rarely these days...

Your description of that beach of yours is how it used to be here...

Alas, no more.

Thanks for your trip down memory lane and for your very kind words too!

17. My dear tigereye!
It's funny...this is how I used to write...

I think of it as my old style, not very sophisticated, or whatever...

It certainly is more concrete than my minimalist writing, which is what I currently (and mostly) do!

I'm so pleased you enjoyed this!

Thank you...

18. I'm a big fan of the concrete image that you can see in your mind
very hard to do - that's my preferred style of poetry, but I also am a huge fan of someone as abstract and imagistic as Wallace Stevens (one of my favorite poets)
