"I'd hang you from the nipples, but you'd shock the children"

Damn, I really adore this movie. It truly is a masterpiece. I'm looking forward to the new adaptation with Patrick Stewart and Glenn Close. I read it sticks a bit more closely to the original play. It can't possibly be as good, but-with Stewart and Close-it should be well worth seeing.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe: attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion, I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate... All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

and

40. From Hud:
"Little by little the look of the country changes because of the men we admire."

The Melvyn Douglas character says this to Hud (Paul Newman) in utter disgust at Hud's wasted life. When I first saw this movie, some 20 years after it originally came out, I was opened-mouthed in shock at the prescience of the line. It was true then, it's true now another twenty years later.

And thanks for all the Lion in Winter quotes. That is also my all-time favorite movie. Didn't know they were remaking it.

41. From "Wag the Dog"
every time Dustin Hoffman says, in response to some new difficulty, "This is nothing!" and then goes on to recite some tale of woe from some movie he made.

The repetition builds and builds, and is the core of that movie, I think. It says, in the end, that if you can't roll with the punches, if you can't improvise when things go wrong, then you don't deserve to succeed.

Another movie I love.
