How do you socialize if you hate to drink?
I don't drink, which is bizarre to most people. (long history of alcoholism in my family and I rather not start and risk running into problems).

It kind of limits my socializing and meeting new people though since most people where I live go to bars and clubs to meet people and not socially drinking at those functions would probably seem odd.

1. It's not odd...

Just don't make it a big deal. You've just built it up in your mind.

Have fun, and be yourself. Anyone that doesn't like you can kiss your ass.

2. Maybe there's some kind of coffeehouse/cafe
in your area where you can socialize with people..?

There are some here where there are actually live bands to listen to and people mingle.

3. It's not odd to go to a bar and drink soda
People do it all the time.

7. Quite so. If I'm not in the mood to drink I often order
a club soda with a twist of lime. If the girls are really partying it up, I might have a virgin Margarita or a virgin Mary at brunch. It's not a requirement to drink to have fun with good folks whose company you enjoy.

4. Go to the bar and order a coke.
Or a club soda. There are lots of people there not drinking. Sometimes if you're with a group, the waiter will think you're the designated driver, and your soft drinks will be free! I have lots of single friends who don't drink but love to dance and socialize. I have one friend who orders ice water with two cherries and an orange slice!

6. Two of my Fraternity Brothers are Straight Edge,
that means no drinking, no drugs, and no to a lot of other things. They still have a blast and are considered two of the bigger partiers. There is more to partying and socializing then drinking, in fact I think that women find it rather enticing.
