But if this is the Military flic about the guy who defuses road side bombs, that looked extremely good, as for Avatar..

meh.. you may as well give the Oscar to Pocahontas...

4. First of all, Hurt Locker is definitely NOT a chick flick
Lots of guns and explosions!

And, I have resisted seeing Avatar until tonight because I'm 59 and stopped watching cartoons when I was about seven.

However, After seeing it tonight at my wife's urging, I have only one thing to say.

AVATAR IS THE BEST FUCKING MOVIE EVER MADE, EVER!

Now that new country singer/cowboy movie, THAT was a chick flick. The only thing I enjoyed about it was that the lead character looks almost exactly like me with the exception that I keep my beard a little more well trimmed and I don't walk around with my fly undone all day.

5. I'm 49 and I still watch cartoons.
You're really missing out if you haven't watched any in 52 years ;)

Catch Adult Swim sometime or, this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2smUUs0_Rc&feature=PlayList&p=6399F4A75870134E&index=27&playnext=4&playnext_from=PL
(it's in "playlist" mode, so the next part should load automagically)

7. While visually stunning, (Avatar will sweep the technical Oscars)
It's no Best Picture. Hurt Locker will take it. Although, I would love to see Up become the first animated feature to win Best Picture.

8. Saw the Hurt Locker yesterday. Pretty good, but incredibly overrated.
It had good acting and was intense. But I thought the plot was lacking big time.

10. Big budget usually loses to indies and small budgets if the race gets close

11. Re: Hurt Locker.
Did this movie come and go and I just missed it? (In which case it probably sucks.)

Or did the studio release it for about ten minutes so it would qualify for awards? (In which case I'm rooting for the other guys because that's some bullshit.)

Or is it out now and I just can't find it? (In which case I'm having a bad day 'cause I can usually find movies in and around Hollywood without too much trouble.)

13. Neither.
Having seen both I don't think that either one of them is real Oscar material.
