I just found a 1936 nickel in my pocket change.
At first I thought it was one of those newer ones with the various patters, but I checked the year.

10. That's usually still recent enough to fall under "nifty" rather than "valuable"
It is indeed nifty though; I don't actively collect coins but I try to keep ones that old and older around, if just because they're historically interesting to me. (And as a Canadian seeing someone else's head other than Elizabeth's on the currency's always a bit odd. ;) )

3. Given inflation compared to it's value as a rare item

I wonder if it's worth more now or then.

5. There is mint error variety 1936 that is worth a ton of money
It is a Denver mint and there is only one front leg....

The formal name is, 1937-D 3 "legged" variety....book value will blow your mind...

6. One thing I would have done if I could
when I was a paperboy, lo, these many years ago, is instead of putting the money I made in the bank, was keeping all the Mercury dimes, Buffalo nickels and silver quarters and half-dollars.

Those coins are worth a small fortune nowadays.
