5. I have a friend who was a writer on the show and he says that she was the only clean-liver...
in the cast. The rest were heavy duty drinkers and were often quite soused during filming. Lines were written all over the set.
True story.
Clampett Babylon!

16. True, but there were also sly digs at cultural trends/foibles of the time...
and, as a Southern California fetishist, I also enjoyed how they used, and made reference to, actual locations- the Sunset Strip, Griffith Park, Pismo Beach, etc.

6. She was also the "beauty" in Twilight Zone's "Eye of the Beholder"
Remember, "Janet Tyler", who was under the knife for the 11th time, trying to look like less of a "freak". She's upset that children scream at her in the street, but it turns out, she's gorgeous and everyone else is pig-nosed and hideous.

Now, it looks like kids have a reason to scream!

12. Her face looks lovely
The problem is the makeup and hairstyle.
If she had a stylist who gave her more current and age appropriate makeup and hair, you'd think she looked great, particularly for a 75 year old woman.

21. Ah, she doesn't look so bad.
With different make-up and a different wig, she'd look pretty good for 75!

Plus, she seems like a nice person.

22. Wow..just found this..

Donna Douglas had the least show business experience when she became the beauteous Elly May. Born in 1933, she didn't pursue a show business career until 1957. Before that, she had won some beauty contests including Miss New Orleans, got married, had a son and divorced. She decided to go to New York where she started out being a model in toothpaste ads.

She started getting a few television appearances including The Perry Como Show, The Steve Allen Show and then The Ed Sullivan Show. A producer liked what he saw on The Ed Sullivan Show and she then had a few movies including Career (1959), L'il Abner (1959) and Lover Come Back (1961). She also appeared in a number of television shows like The Twilight Zone and Ozzie and Harriet. Her one starring role came in 1966 while on hiatus from the show. She played along with Elvis Presley in Frankie and Johnny.

Donna is a devout Christian and often performs singing gospel music and has recorded a couple of albums. She speaks at churches across the country as well as at schools and college campuses. She also wrote a children's book featuring Bible stories about animals called Donna's Critters & Kids: Children's Stories with a Bible Touch.

26. You beat me to it..
A simpler hair style in a more natural color, and dial down the sparklies, and you have a very attractive older woman.
There are makeup tricks that work better for older women too.
(Too much paint accentuates the ruts, so to speak.)

25. If we didn't know she was Ellie Mae, we'd think she was a right pretty lady.
Bettie Page was pretty her whole life, but she didn't allow portraits of herself to be published after a certain age because she didn't want to spoil the illusion that the BP of the 1950s ever aged.

sure the hair and outfit rub against our cultural grain, because 75 year old women, they are supposed to be completely asexual crones, aren't they? :(

If I wanted to live to be 75, I would hope to look as good.

31. It is a beautiful thing to grow old. The alternative of course, is dying young.
For a life, I'd prefer Ms. Douglas than Marilyn Monroe.
