New music recommendations?
Have 42 song credits to use on eMusic.com within a week, and have no idea what I want.

I generally like stuff like Modest Mouse, Arcade Fire, Death Cab, Feist, Spoon, but I HAVE most of their stuff already. White Stripes, Afghan Whigs, Strokes, Killers, and stuff like that too.

Also older 80s and 90s "college rock" stuff.

Any suggestions? And please don't tell me how I have to discover Lithuanian folk music, or free form jazz tuba, or that kind of stuff. Thanks so much!

1. I've just discovered this Lithuanian free form tuba band!
:hide:

To be honest, if I recommended any music you'd be longing for a tuba band! :D

7. Grabbed a track of theirs...
"This is the One Thing We Did Not Want to Have Happen" -- I like some of the Dandy Warhols stuff.... aren't they like sworn enemies or something?

9. There's a documentary called "Dig!" about that very thing.
I haven't seen it yet, though.

But as for a BJM album recommendation, I'd go with "Their Satanic Majesties' Second Request."

3. Go to a local indie record store and ask the knowledgeable clerk what's good
Oh wait, they don't have record stores anymore.

Sigh.

8. Yeah, our last one is in the process of closing.
Maybe I didn't spend enough money there, but I grew to hate the owner for the way he mistreated a friend of mine who worked there, so I avoided shopping there.

6. Thanks!
Had the Raveonettes, but I'll copy it to my iPod for my weekend roadtrip since I've not listened to it in a while.

Like the previews of Jakalope, so I grabbed that album. :)

Any others? (Youtube links not necessary)

10. Apocalyptica - quartet of Finnish classical-musicians play Metallica.
Give it a listen.

Type O Negative have some tunes you may like.

5. Thanks to the following two sites and a search on the group "Solace"
I discovered Mandalay. I really like them now, though they're not together anymore...

Solace, if you're interested in Middle Eastern percussion/belly-dance music, too :)
