An iconic local building goes up in flames

Kind of sad, this historic building was basically an emblem of the neighborhood it was located in:



This is how it appeared last night, after it caught fire:



It's a total loss, unfortunately.

However, if it can't be rebuilt, I hope some enterprising person considers all the likely true-dimension timber in it that can be re-used... :)

3. It is always unfortunate. But what a beautiful old building it was.

That is part of the problem. The wood dries out, becomes dusty, the wiring gets old and bad, and also some seedy tenants carelessly smoke or have inappropriate heaters, cookers, or just too much electro for the old wiring.
No smoke detectors? and no sprinklers.
They become fire traps.
Updating them costs a fortune. And you still have an old building.
Well, let us see what happens. Is this in one of those areas that are losing population? If so, it will be bulldozed and left as a vacant lot.
