The GRATEFUL DEAD ARE BACK! (seriously, no shit!)
The band Further is the best re creation of the Grateful Dead I have ever seen. I have seen or heard every show this band has played and it is pure heat. surprising songs, jams that sound like the Grateful Dead. Sometimes I don't even think about the guitar player, he is hitting everything. The drummers are smoking too, the songs are sped up now, not the slow stuff that all the other bands did.

These guys are not the Dead, Not a band with Warren Haynes (don't get me wrong Warren is GOD) but this is like that seamless outfit that blew your mind back then.

Wanna have a flashback well..http://www.archive.org/details/furthur2010-02-06.schoeps.marcus.105866.flac16.. This is Saturdays show.

6. If I could afford to go to the Asheville show I would
but the tix are just too expensive. I remember seeing them in the early 90's for less than $30 per show. :(

11. Bah humbug.
Further puts on a good show, certainly. Their recent show in Miami was kick-ass. But a band without Jerry Garcia is, by definition, not the Grateful Dead.

12. Can't get any closer....
to me they sound like the real GD, the one that was all loosey goosey and taking chances. even the GD, with jerry kind of lost that...

13. Look, I love the Grateful Dead and all
Sure I'm GenX, but my first dead show was at the Greek in Berkeley when they had their 'comeback' concert in the 80's. Jerry was in the hospital for a while and he got out. Great show. Ken Kesey was doing all manner of crazy shit on the PA. Perfect introduction to the craziness that IS a dead show.

But even with the band fully formed, and all stars filling in for Jerry, nothing matches that feeling when Jerry and the band just GOT IT RIGHT.

There were many moments and luckily for us this was all caught on tape. But its over, without Jerry any configuration is a 'Reunion Band' rather than the real deal.

I remember seeing Ratdog in the late 90's and I realized 'OK its over.'

Peace :)

14. Nah, it's not over at all
it may be over for you, but the phil lesh and friends show i went to a couple years ago in raleigh nc was as good as the dead show i went to in july of 1990 right before brent died. i agree that rat dog did not live up to my expectations, but phil lesh and friends was on fire. i hear the asheville show from 2 nights ago was very mellow/trippy with phil on vocals for both Pride of Cucamunga and a 15min+ version of Unbroken Chain (woop can't wait to hear that). getting ready to listen to it now. gonna post a link to live audio from all the spring tour dates so far to this thread in just a min. peas. :hippie:
