And they're not doing real well -I think they spent more time drinking than rehearsing.

How very sad.

2. Oh please. They know they're old and they still rock.
I don't hear anybody dissing the old players who were proclaimed the Class of 2010. I didn't hear a thing wrong with their retrospective. What would have made you happy? Please be specific, i.e. not "Somebody younger."

5. I can't even begin to attempt to understand your broken syntax, out of context statements,
or your point.

Seriously, you offered a series of totally disconnected statements with no over-arching point.

What are you trying to say?

If you need wait until tomorrow when you've sobered up, please feel free to do so.

25. Ouch. Actually you just didn't understand the references.
I'll admit I left some stuff out, erroneously thinking you might have seen part of the pre-game I did, i.e. the introduction of the "Class of 2010" at the beginning of the game, the veteran players who were cheered heartily but who, like The Who, are getting on. And I didn't hear a thing wrong with their (The Who's) retrospective. "Retrospective" means looking back.

And if you don't understand "What would have made you happy?" I can't help.

And you're right; I had been enjoying the game, the halftime, and the company of friends who, along with me, enjoyed that old stadium rock extravagance and talked about how The Who probably would have loved today's technology back in the day when they sold out big places like Wembley and most of the stadiums in the US. And the wine and my Saints were spectacular. Sorry you weren't having a similarly fine time.

35. I still don't understand why you think my post was an attack on their age.
I said nothing about it - you brought that in on your own.

Sorry if I'm being obtuse, but if I make statement A and someone comes back with a counter-argument against a non-made statement B, then I become quite confused. I expect people to respond to what I said, not something obliquely (at best) related to it.

McCartney set the bar a couple years ago. Springsteen did great last year. The Who... sad.

4. That was the first time I ever cried during a Super Bowl half-time show.
Roger can still belt out a song, and Pete can still play his guitar, but shit! Moon and The Ox are both dead, and Roger and Pete look like the old men they are. And, it's making me feel even older. Roger performed wearing glasses? Yep, too sad.

6. I cried not because they looked old, but because they looked they didn't care any more.
The had an attitude of "Ah, fuck it - we made our billions. Let's phone this one in."

23. I didn't get that vibe.
To me, it looked like they just didn't physically have it in them any more. I was expecting a young Pete hopping all over like he used to, and more dynamic Roger. Then it dawned on me how old they are. I don't know any 60-somethings that have the energy those guys had when they were young. But, I think the heart was still there. It's was just worn out.

10. The VH1 Rock Honors tribut to the Who is well worth watching...
...but only up to the point where "the Who" take the stage. Townsend still rocks, but Daltrey's voice simply can't carry that enormous karmic load anymore.

And no reason why it should--it's painful to hear him try.

Starts playing "Baba O'Riley"

29. People have heart issues
all the time and are totally unaware of them. They live their lives as they normally would without considering them. No different than if someone didn't know and decided to eat a whole pizza with a sub sandwich for lunch and the same thing happened.

33. Zak Starkey revitalized the post-Kenney Jones band
If I remember correctly, the two reasons why Townshend wanted Jones was that he was from "the old neighborhood," and that it was a deliberate effort to work with a drummer who sounded nothing like Moon.

He got what he wanted, and "Face Dances" & "It's Hard" are nothing short of pathetic.

They later played with (but did not record new material with) Simon Phillips, a solid session player who's worked with Jeff Beck and others. Although he's a rock-solid musician, the Who's music isn't what he does best.

When Zak came along, it was right around the time that Townshend finally admitted that Moon was, is, and forever shall be the "heart" of the band.

But the replacing The Ox?

"Replacing" Entwistle with Pino Palladino...a bass player with an instantly recognizable style that I have never cared for...that's right around the time they lost me.

30. I saw the Who do Tommy back in the '70s.
It was a great show, but then and always, I've thought Daltrey one of the weakest rock vocalists. He had the look but not the chops. Townsend has had great issues with his hearing in the past couple of decades.

An odd choice for the SuperHype, er SuperBowl, but whatever. It is about commerce, not music.

31. I saw about half og the show and thought they were good all things considered
I mean, how many people can even rock half that hard at their age? I didn't think it was that bad.

As for medleys, this is not the first time they've done a medley either, I am pretty sure. Does "A Quick One While He's Away" count? That's from 1966.
