If you're not going to see "The Book of Eli" because the idea of a Christiany Bibly kind of movie turns you off, I strongly urge you to get past your prejudices. It's not a preachy movie--the Bible is little more than a McGuffin here. Still, this movie was awesome on a stick. The violence is graphic, so beware those of yall who don't like silhouetted limb severings. Beyond that, this is a smart movie, compelling, intense. Denzel is grittier and more Eastwoody that I've ever seen him. It's mind candy on one level, but it's also a really powerful painting of what hope and determination and the power of an idea can mean.

1. Thank you for the review
I was one of those who didn't want to see it exactly for the reasons you said. I think you've changed my mind. :)

2. Grittier than his Training Day character?

That was a very dark character (and one of his best).

3. Huh. I thought it was watchable sort of like Westworld and Soylent Green were
but the leaps of logic and the sheer absurdity of the little details (purebred cats? A Zippo with fuel after 30 years? And my fave, which MUST have been a joke, back-up beepers on the truck?) made for both a ton of forehead slapping and a few out-loud laughs. At least he KNEW it was A Boy and Hid Dog meets Zatoichi. And that made me enjoy it for the "ignore your brain and enjoy" factor.

4. You're gonna sit there and tell me you *doubt* that KFC handiwipes stay fresh for 30 years?
You gotta wonder what the product placement people at Budweiser were smoking
