Things to do in Southern California when it rains.
Surf in a storm drain.

Call the local Flood Control District office and make gurgling sounds.

Go out and flop down on the ground and make "mud angels".

Take bets on the when the next landslide at La Conchita will be.

1. Stay home and off the roads. People here do not know how to drive in the rain.
:scared:

2. Very true. SoCal residents (whether native or not) have 2 speeds in the rain....
5 mph, or 95 mph.

The trouble starts when those two different types of drivers meet on the road...

14. Amen to that!
Not only do they NOT slow down once the rain
begins, many speed up!

WTH?

In over 50 years of living in SoCal off and on
I can never understand this.

3. Grab the heavy jacket and umbrella, walk fifteen minutes to the library to get online
and find "Things to do in Southern California when it rains" threads.

;) :hi:

4. You might want to check out some books on "ark building".
Just sayin'.

8. Whitewater Rafting in the LA River!
Complain about the weather to family in the Midwest/East...dodge snowballs and curses.

Invest in Rosetta Stone, learn French on your drive home. When you (finally) get home, impress your significant other with your mastery of the language.

Check the water-tight seal on your convertible top.

Replace the windshield wipers that melted onto the glass sometime since you last used them (a year ago).

Take pictures of the Hollywood Hills. Quick! Before the grass dies!

The second it quits raining, take pictures of the downtown skyline. Quick! Before the smog comes back!

:)

10. There is a country club in Montecito, CA
that has some steep hills...back in the day, when it rained really really hard, some old friends and I would take the fins off our old surf boards, sneak in there and surf those hills during torrential downpours...we also used to boogie board the creeks behind Carpinteria...a close family friend died in that last La Conchita slide...Cali, it's paradise.

11. STAY OFF THE FREEWAYS!
Somehow, water from the sky TOTALLY freaks out SoCalers.
Sorry, Peggy, it had to be said.

13. My dear liberaltrucker!
Nah...it only freaks them out for the first 12 hours or so...

Then, it's back to normal driving!
