Chevy Chase might be the unfunniest human being currently alive
If, indeed, he is alive.

I have my doubts.

3. Oh, no. A number of people are unfunnier than Chevy Chase.
Dennis Miller and Adam Sandler immediately come to mind.

4. I dunno... He's pretty funny on "Community".
From all accounts, he's something of a dick in person, but he's made me laugh frequently. That doesn't excuse him from being a dick, but he's not my neighbor or relative or anything.

6. Actually, "Community" is what prompted my OP
At 8:00PM I found myself strapped into one of those Clockwork Orange chairs and forced to watch it.

Which is, for the record, the only way I could have sat through a half an hour of it.

Chevy seemed forced and desperate with every syllable. Of course, if he's actually laid-back and confident in real life, then it was a heck of a fine performance.

Still not what I'd call funny, though.

21. But that's his character on Community
Clearly everyone else thinks he's unfunny too, and in this episode, didn't he even try to hire some kids to write funny lines for him?

I'm not defending him because while I like that show, he's my least favorite character in it, but I do like the show.

25. I see what you mean about that being his character
But that really seems to be his character, as in his personality. The last bunch of roles he's played have had a similarly desperate edge to them, though, so maybe it's just the roles coloring my perception of him.

47. +1. Community is one of my favorite new shows.
And I think it's great that part of what makes him so funny on that show is that he's so painfully unfunny. But hey, I even kinda liked the Chevy Chase show.

About the same height, both former SNL anchors. Nealon can actually say something in a funny way unlike Chase who makes me wonder how much coke Fletch Lives paid for.

and I know he was in other films after that, but he was not funny and was unmemorable. I think as soon as he got cosmetic surgery, it started going downhill.

Vacation films were his peak.

He played an anti-Semitic asshole who was pulled over for drunk driving (a la Mel Gibson - real asshole), who may or may not also be a murderer.

He plays a sad old bastard who'll do anything for a laugh or to get laid.

Don't know if it's available on Youtube (I'm lazy) but on the first incarnation of Bill Maher's 'Politically Incorrect' he proved himself a first class asshole when he decided to mock/humiliate fellow panelist Steven Boccho. It backfired resulting in highly amusing tee vee.

He also had me with his tv show, which was set in a social worker office--how many comedians are willing to put such a blue collar spin on their flagship?

Norm McDonald doesn't snark.

Maybe he appeals more to men than to
women....because I don't think he's
funny at all.

He was appearing at a local college, and he was over two hours late, saying he had gotten into an accident on the way down from NYC. I've never seen a comedian die before, and it wasn't pretty.

30. I saw him on Jimmy Kimmel the night Kimmel was doing his Leno impression.
Kimmel was made up as Leno and doing the Leno lisp and had the fake chin on. His impression wasn't very good, but it was headed in the right direction at least--plus he got the constant not-funny Leno jokes shtick down pretty good. Then Chevy comes out with the Conan wig on... it was a great set up.

Now a Conan impression wouldn't be very hard to do. Again, neither Chase or nor Kimmel is an impressionist, so I don't expect Frank Gorshin level detailing. But you can at least mimic Conan's style pretty easy. Have a squealy tone of voice and a too-eager twittering laugh. Wiggle your neck a bit so your big red pompadour wobbles when you overreact. It's not a tough sell once you have the wig on. But instead of doing a Conan impression--or at least trying to do a Conan impression--Chevy starts mimicking Jimmy Kimmel's Leno lisp.

Get it? Kimmel is lisping so Chevy starts lisping. It's like watching a three year old singing along with a muppet he's watching on tv, only Chevy Chase is 67 and looks senile while doing it. How utterly lame! It's like he has no internal process going on, which is pretty important if you're going to be a comedian or any other human being worth watching.

How did this formerly pretty buffoon ever get famous? I used to think Dan Quayle was the luckiest man in the world. Chevy Chase may just have surpassed him.

46. I think this is a generational thing - he could burp and it would make me laugh because
somehow, I can tell that he and I were raised in a very similar way, and his sense of humor is about the absurdity of everyday things and customs (comedy of manners?). Whereas, someone like Julie Brown caricatures celebrities and famous people.

He keeps me in stitches.
