My 3 year old grandson is starting to watch DVD's.
Up is his current favorite with Curious George & Annie following close behind. Any suggestions for the library shelf I'd like to put together for him?

1. There are some excellent Dr. Seuss DVD's by Random House
They are just the narrated stories with original artwork from the books. No needless filler to dilute the brilliance of Dr. Seuss.

7. We have Green Eggs and Ham & The Cat in the Hat in that format
I have to admit that two of the voiceover people are kind of grating, but on the whole it's a great use of the material, especially if the child already enjoys the books.

9. I'll have to talk to his mom about that one.
I can remember the flying monkeys scaring the shit out of me when I was little.

17. I remember watching it at about the age of 6.
.
Wasn't scared a bit... but I did throw up.
.
Coincidental flu, was all.
.
Still love that movie. Grew up with a bunch of the Oz novels -- some
from around 1916 with amazing pen-and-ink illustrations (talk about
the potential for some nightmare-producin') and some from the early
1930's with full-color illustrations that sucked in comparison.
.
Great read for kids even today.

And of course, there are the Wiggles. My little pal loved those from 18 months on.

16. Seriously though,
my daughter at that age could not get enough of Lady and the Tramp. We still don't know why.

And every time, this was back in the days of videos, we'd put the tape in Micky Mouse would come on in logo and she found that amazing.

I can still hear the way she'd say, "Daddy, Micky Mouse!" With great reverence and awe. She was so cute.

18. My 7 y/o daughter still loves Thomas the Tank Engine
Cars, The Incredibles, All three Ice Age movies. There's others I'm forgetting.

There are also DVDs of big machinery in action - that always seems to fascinate that age of boy.

19. Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends.
But then my eldest son liked Thomas a lot from that age until about 5-6, when he grew out of Thomas.

20. Vintage Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers. There's also an excellent series of videos that shows how a
house is built, it visits a farm, a cockpit, they follow garbage...I'll see if I can find the name of them, because they're awesome without being condescending.

26. That's the good news.
He has many, many books & his mama has been reading to him from birth. She only started to let him watch very selected TV a while back. But the culture creeps into the kid & the kid wants what he sees.

25. My grandson loves Blues Clues
and Bob the Builder. Mind you, he's only (almost) 1. I think he likes watching all the bright colors. Every time they start singing, he stands up and starts rocking back and forth.
