Me: microwave oven. I've never owned one. Don't know if I ever will. Not that I have anything against them in principle. We just don't have any place to put one. (City apartment dwellers.)

50. Hang onto that land line as long as you can.
And, keep an old-fashioned corded phone on hand. If you wind up losing power for any length of time, that could become your only form of communication. We had an ice storm here a few years ago. I had no electricity for almost 3 days. Others lost it for over a week. The cordless phones didn't work. People's cell phones died because they couldn't recharge them. My old Trimline corded phone worked the whole time. No way will I ever give up my land line.

I also won't use my cell or cordless phones for fianancial transactions that require a pin #.

49. Ditto.
Don't have one. Don't want one. Someone once said to me that she didn't know how we all got along without them. All I could do was roll my eyes and shake my head at that one. I still get along just fine without a cell phone. I really do not understand the need to have a fucking telephone glued to one's ear 24/7. I don't have one because I want people to leave me the hell alone.

I'd actually like to have one if I really needed to make a call, but why practically everyone you see is talking to somebody else everywhere from in the grocery store to walking down the street is beyond me. The voices in my head drive me crazy enough... ;)

51. They are good for re-heating most leftovers
Us single folks eat a lot of leftovers. Days and days of leftovers sometimes. I'll cook a pot of soup and eat it all week--except for a portion or two I'll freeze for later. I'd rather warm it in a bowl in the microwave than dirty up a pot to reheat it on the stove. I won't argue about the potatoes. They ARE better in the oven.

7. DVR/Tivo
Still using the old VCR to record things. Maybe I'll get it if Comcast throws in a good price for it, but in the meantime I'm managing okay.

Also, I don't have a large flatscreen TV. We just bought a 19 inch flat screen for one of the bedrooms, but in our living room we have a 15 year old 32 incher. Once it dies we'll get a large flat screen, but I'm not in a hurry to replace it.

76. Same here - no GPS
I love maps and finding different ways of going between the same two places. GPS would not help with that.

I was talking to a man the other day whose GPS led him a hundred miles out of his way. There was a detour (one of those sinkholes down in Central Florida wiped out a major highway) he lost the detour route somewhere along the way. The GPS faithfully led him right back to the other end of his original route, even though he had tried to enter his new location and the original final destination. A six hour trip got four hours added onto - mostly because with the GPS onboard, he had left all his maps at home.

Perfect rice every time, without having to watch over it or adjust temperature or anything.

Granted, it's not like cooking rice is rocket science, but I would give away other appliances before giving up my rice cooker. They freaking rock!!

Mine also has a timer on it so I can set up the rice and night and have it start up automatically and have my rice ready for breakfast when I get up. Wonderful!

61. I have it all! I am a techie whore of the first degree.
I drool over gadgets--and I'm a chick. The Las Vegas Consumer Electronics show would be like a big porn convention to me. In fact, put me inbetween a DSW shoe store or a Best Buy in the Mall, and I'm sprinting into the latter.

Ipod, with 2500 songs. Ipod shuffle, which I won't run on the trail without, Iphone, which replaced my earlier Palm Pilot. Samsung flat screen TV, bigger that the box apartment I live in. Keep the jewelry and the expensive clothes (nothing fits me properly anyway!) I'll buy tech toys, every time.

So take that, Luddites.:hi:

I also do not own a Walkman, a Laserdisc player, anything made by Apple Computer, my TV is not equipped with Teletext.

However I do have this thing called satellite TV. Apparently it's going to take off, especially with these TV channels like MTV which plays music, TNN, which plays country music videos straight from Nashville and C-SPAN which will just bore us to death.

72. a Car or Television.
Edited on Fri Feb-05-10 12:56 AM by ThomCat
I have never owned a car, or felt the need to.

I only owned televisions for a relatively short part of my adult life, years ago, and that was because they were given to me. When I moved last year I didn't bother to bring them with me. They were just taking up space, and I wasn't sure if they worked or not because they had not been turned on in so long.

77. Don't own a rifle newer than an AR-15.
But, still prefer an M1 Garand for those occasional unpleasantries.

86. We didn't have a dishwasher , cable or drip coffee maker
but now we're taking care of my Dad in his house, and he has all 3 (we ditched the French Press because the price of grind-your-own coffee got too high)

I could go without the dishwasher and cable again. I had forgotten that drip coffee can be surprisingly good, and much easier than always ensuring the correct grind of bean for the French Press.

Reading this made me realize how much I love some of my gadgets - GPS, iPod, iHome, laptop and Blackberry. I used to think of myself as a Luddite, but forget it now.

81. All of them
My cel phone is merely a phone and a 2 kilopixel camera - I would not categorize it as 'modern' equipment.

82. a glock
I don't know how I get to work on time without one, but I'm living perfectly well without a glock and I gan't even imagine why I'd want to buy one now, even if I gould find one at a decent price.

88. A Wii or any game system
Other than that, I suddenly realize I have a lot of the gadgets out there, and up until now never thought/realized I was tech saavy.

I've got the iPhone, a MacBook, a DVR, a Blu-Ray and a wireless network.

I've got the coolest aviation headset arriving from Denmark soon. Custom molded to each ear, and no microphone! The microphone is internal to the wiring, and works by picking up vibrations from the jawbone. I love the idea of not having anything on my head any more (other than maybe a price)!

And I don't intend to get one. A couple tin cans and string work perfectly well.

I don't have a hedge.

Electric can openers get sad if you put them in the dishwasher.

98. ?
I wash my own dishes and I don't have kids although when I grew up I often hand-washed dishes for a family of six, including the baby of the family (12 years younger than me)
