1. Too true
But just to warn you all and burnish my creds, I am the aforementioned douchebag. The Rockies are just too badass for you people east of the Mississippi, and you all don't know what you're talking about :P

2. I've never skied anywhere east of the Rockies
so I honestly wouldn't know what passes for a black diamond elsewhere.

4. Stowe Vt. Black Diamond trail...
Slopes were ice. I could see the base parking lot between my skis. Mogels. I went down on my ass but I got down. Harrowing.

6. I hate ice
A few years back a group of us were skiing Big White (Kelowna, BC). We were going to attempt the run that is simply known as "The Cliff" (because it's insanely steep) but when we got up there it was a solid sheet of ice. We watched one guy attempt it and he wiped out on this first turn, lost everything and he and his gear slid all the way to the bottom. We came back later after the sun had softened it a bit and we were able to make it down without falling at least.

7. Stowe is just gorgeous. We passed through there on family vacation a few years ago. :^)

8. It is. And ice seems to be the normal in the Northeast. When I first
learned to ski, how to get up after falling down and skiing on ice were the first lessons.

9. Yeah. We often have crunchy crusty snow around here that the kids can walk on top of.
