I am watching Idiocracy for the first time.
I know, I know, late to the party.

No one told me it was a horror movie.

Did anyone else find it TOO close to home?

3. Idiocracy and the spaceship people in Wall-E are two of the more depressing things I've seen in film
Both are more possible than anyone imagines.

4. At least the spaceship people in "WALL-E" were essentially good-natured.
Can't say the same about the goombahs in "Idiocracy"...

5. Welcome to Costco, I love you.
I fucking love that movie but the first scene may be the best explanation for the intellectual decline in this country.

14. It started off boring and slow
Edited on Mon Feb-01-10 11:50 PM by pokerfan
Female Reporter: It started off boring and slow with Not Sure trying to bullshit everyone with a bunch of smart talk: 'Blah blah blah. You gotta believe me!' That part of the trial sucked! But then the Chief J. just went off. He said, 'Man, whatever! The guy's guilty as shit! We all know that.' And he sentenced his ass to one night of rehabilitation.

Some had high hopes the genetic engineering would correct this trend in evolution, but sadly the greatest minds and resources where focused on conquering hair loss and prolonging erections.

Often when I see yet another example of that movie's too-close-to-homeness, I'll think to myself, "Idiocracy is real."

25. Not too comforting...
since genetics is less important than attitude... whether children are raised to respect intelligence and love learning, or... not.

27. Agree.
Uneven movie.
Gotta admit it sticks with you, tho.
The high spots were memorable.
And any movie with Stephen Root is worth a look, IMHO.

23. I am a fan of the movie. But something no one points out
There would be no "America" (what they refer to it in the movie). China or some other more advanced nation would have taken over such a stupid country. Just because "America" got so incredibly stupid doesn't mean India or China declined in intelligence.

I know, I know - it's a movie, and I need to lighten up!

so that the healthcare workers who use it have to do less thinking, and depend more on the machines... so... perhaps?

and coded computers at the receptionist/billing desks.
Not quite as colorful buttons tho.
We are getting there.
One day, too soon, as you say.

28. Terry Crews is hilarious
I hate the original "Longest Yard" but the remake was funny mostly because of Crews. He played Cheeseburger Eddie and one of my favorite lines is "You're being a real McAsshole."
