At church yesterday, my pastor said there was no Santa Claus
then he said there's no Easter Bunny.

then he said there's no Tooth Fairy.

Everybody started looking around and at each other.

At least when I told my cousin, "you still believe in Santa Claus?" I was 8. (so was he) :hide:

When I did it, it caused some commotion.

4. "Everybody started looking around and at each other."
They were wondering if he would say there's no Jesus either.

6. I get it. Trying to discredit those who infringe upon the "holy" days.
Not even the tooth fairy is safe, save those quarters for Sunday service.

I hope a leprechaun kicks his ass.

7. Catholic or Protestant
Or fundie? Sounds like he's trying to get the Christ back in Christmas and all that. Were there any little kids there?

9. in between and not fundie, definitely not
Everybody's discomfort was probably at the thought that kids might be in the room and there were, but perhaps not at an age where it would be a problem.

14. When I was an Episcopalian I didn't see it that way, though many did.
I figured we either took orders from the Pope or we did not. And we did not. Our priests and bishops could marry or be women and eventually they could be openly gay. It was an old, white, clapboard New England church started in 1810.

It also depends whether it is High Episcopal or Low Episcopal. In New England we were mostly high retaining many of the R. Catholic formalities and customs. Down South they were mostly Low Episcopal which was more evangelical and more puritan in the literal sense of that word.

16. I was five when a visiting minister announced that there was no
Santa Claus. The pastor, my father, asked him to sit down and then tried to smooth it over. This was around 59 years ago. That kind of took the fun of Christmas away but I thought I was so much more mature than those other kids who still believed in him.

While on the subject, I don't care if you are religious or not I believe children need to have some fantasy/joy in they life. I knew a couple (they belonged to the communist party) who had a little boy and they had the rule if the he loved a toy, they threw it away. They told him that Santa Claus was a mean old bum who hurt children. I never saw a sadder child and I later worked with badly physical/sexually abused children. I stopped them from coming to my house because I didn't like them and I did not want them around my child.

Oh, I am not religious per se.
