Did you know this about our “Pledge of Allegiance?”
It was written by a Socialist and published in the September 8th issue of The Youth's Companion. The man who wrote the pledge was Francis Bellamy (1855 - 1931), a Baptist minister, wrote the original Pledge in August 1892. He was a Christian Socialist.

3. And It Didn't Contain "Under God" Until 1954
When the Knights of Columbus pursuaded Congress to add those words in an attempt to turn the pledge into some sort of loyalty oath that they were sure would weed out communists, since everyone knows all communists are athiests and would not say "under God".

A simpler time, and simpler minds.....

5. And the word "equality" was removed
As written by Bellamy, it read "for liberty, justice and EQUALITY" for all.

What a shame!

8. I did not know that either...I knew the Socialist thing and that
the words "under God" were an addition in the '50s, but not that...

9. actually from the info on the link, HE chose to not include it because he
knew there were those who opposed equality for blacks and women.
excerpt here:
"His original Pledge read as follows: 'I pledge allegiance to my Flag and (to*) the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.' He considered placing the word, 'equality,' in his Pledge, but knew that the state superintendents of education on his committee were against equality for women and African Americans. < * 'to' added in October, 1892. >"
