One of my favorite Brady Bunch episodes
The school bully, Buddy Hinton, has been making fun of Cindy's lisp. Peter tells him to stop, but he refuses to fight the bully. Buddy continues making fun of Cindy, and when Peter tries to "reason" with the bully in lieu of fighting, Buddy whacks Peter in the face with a black eye.

Mike and Carol get nowhere with Buddy Hinton's parents, so Mike teaches Peter to fight so as to defend himself. Then Peter flattens Buddy with one punch.

I wonder if the PC police would allow an episode like that on TV today, what with all of these schools that have "zero tolerance" policies about fighting, and suspend kids for being "in the fight".

1. I remember that episode too
Always wished I had a brother to stand up for me.

You're probably right about it not being PC today.

2. I remember that episode.
Unfortunately.

I like this way of dealing with a bully, better. :-)

3. Not only did Peter flatten Buddy, but he knocked out his tooth and gave him a lisp!
That was a great episode!

5. Hopefully, there will come a day when common sense will return to the school-yard.
Giving a bully a bloody nose means you can walk down the street the next day.

Our own vice-president learned this lesson from his beloved mother.

All too often now the bullies tactics are psycological torture or the physical acts are ignored when done by the bully.

The zero-tolerance laws are usually brought to play when the victim finally lashes out.

It is the victim that generally gets suspended or expelled.

Zero tolerance laws allow no wiggle room for common sense or recognizing the fact that it is probably biological normal for kids to get into a bit of a scuffle now and then.

Zero tolerance is probably driving this move into the arguably more damaging acts of spiteful Facebook postings and the like.

A black eye goes away. The internet. Like diamonds. Lasts forever.
