Pepsi Throwback with real sugar. UMMM good

found some yesterday and bought a 12 pack for NYE as I rarely drink aside from the one glass of champagne at midnight.

I really liked the throwback pepsi. I may buy some more if I find it.


I would really LOVE to find some coke like it was before they changed the formula. It is NOT the same even tho they went back to "classic"

There's a bottling plant in Texas that still uses real sugar. I have a co-worker (Texas native) who brings some back for me every time she goes home to visit family. We also have a bottle of "pure" Mountain Dew in the fridge that we may open today.

Of course, you can get that taste most of the time with you buy the high-end "boutique" soft drinks. Yummy!

Like the Pepsi Throwback ( & Mt. Dew), it's sadly a short time release. But money talks. They brought the Pepsi products back again. Hopefully they'll get the hint and make the change permanent.

21. I've been told that some of these are released during Passover

because High Fructose Corn Syrup is not considered Kosher.

Don't know if that's true or not.

23. It's true for Coke

Pepsi may have a "Kosher" release too, but neither have a very wide distribution. Grain based sweeteners are not Kosher for Passover, though apparently fine the rest of the year. I don't consider HFCS "kosher" at any time, but that's me saying that, not the Rabbi.

with real sugar it is Kosher. The Cokes have a yellow cap and it is noticeably better

5. The roach coach at my work has Mexican Coke every day.

All the labeling is in Spanish except for a big white slapped on label to satisfy the American nutritional information regs.

So so very good.

ETA: It's made with real sugar and tastes like the Coke I drank when I was a kid.

16. Kosher Coke isn't very widely distributed

They apparently target the distribution to markets with higher Jewish populations. Hasn't made it to my one-synagogue town, unfortunately. Thank God I can find the Mexican stuff at Costco, or the neighborhood convenience store, if I just need a single bottle "right now".

6. All of the local bodegas carry coke and pepsi from Mexico

both come in the old school glass bottles and with real sugar..
I can walk two blocks in any direction and find real sugar soda at these latino bodegas.

which is marketed in more and more stores, but honestly I don't like it as much as the regular, and much less than Pepsi Throwback.

I wish Pepsi would put it back on the market. I'd never drink Coke again.

I used to stock groceries back in high school (1974-1975), so......

Safety - Back then we had one liter glass bottles of soda. The damn things had a tendency to explode just sitting on the shelf.

Weight - glass is much heavier than plastic or aluminum. That cost is reflected in shipping costs, which are then passed onto the consumer. Glass breaks during shipment and handling.

Cost - People and companies were tired of dealing with the cost of deposit. Owners of vending machines had to maintain a rack or crate to hold empties, that took up space and they were a target for theft. 24 bottles x $.05 or $.10 was quite a bit of money back then. As a comparison, minimum wage back in '73-'75 was $2.50 an hour, and a 12 oz bottle of coke was $.10. Off-brands of soda like Shasta, could be had for as little as $.05 a can.

The first thing I noticed was how hard it was to open the bottle. It was very good after I opened it though.
