My microwave just caught fire & melted.
Nothing else is damaged - even the counter-top. The kitchen is just full of plastic smoke & the door is welded shut. The thing's 12 yrs old, so it had a good run.

I hope they have some sales going on tomorrow.

1. I am so sorry
You will be able to find a decent one under 50 dollars, but I am sorry you have to buy a new one.

2. Generally you don't see that kind of behavior in a major appliance...
Good to hear that nothing else was damaged.

4. Confession time.
My high school calculus class was held in an adjacent room to the cafeteria.

The teacher was so universally hated, I wasn't punished when I microwaved a number 2 pencil, with the resulting fireworks show.

5. This post is useless without PICS
I have found it hard to kill a microwave. In my house in the States, we still have one that we got for our wedding 16 years ago. It still works great.

6. I have a 32 year old microwave.
I don't use it, but at last check, it still worked. It's one of the early ones with a single dial on the front. It sounds like a freight train and it weighs more than my Prius--probably burns more energy, too.

10. We have one of those in the basement
It came with the house and, if I'm not mistaken, predates the transistor.

11. Oh, you mean you have a "Radarange"
On October 8, 1945 Raytheon filed a U.S. patent for Spencer's microwave cooking process and an oven that heated food using microwave energy was placed in a Boston restaurant for testing. In 1947, the company built the Radarange, the first microwave oven in the world. It was almost 1.8 metres (5.9 ft) tall, weighed 340 kilograms (750 lb) and cost about 5000 US dollars each. It consumed 3 kilowatts, about three times as much as today's microwave ovens, and was water-cooled.

14. I don't know about that, but...
every time we use it, we experience a rain of fish and brief solar eclipse.

16. Mine is 27 years old
I keep waiting for it to die so I can get a smaller, more efficient one.

8. My first microwave turned on by itself.
Good thing I was there when it happened. I went out and bought a new one that afternoon. The new one almost met the same end as yours did, but I unplugged it before any of the sparks caught fire.

If you have a Tuesday Morning or a TJ Maxx nearby, check them out. Sometimes they have great deals on appliances. Big Lots, too.

13. So what. Welcome to the club. Bury the old one in the back yard,
and go down and get a new one.
