8 months without alcohol, 1 month without a cigarette
My sister thinks I'm an imposter. I can't believe it myself. Life is sure different now. :)

1. Welcome back to the world...
It's been 25 1/2 years for the booze and 24 3/4 for smokes...

It really does get easier...

5. Thanks, and congrats on your 25!
My sponsor has 29, and she is such a dandy! I looked for someone who actually walks the walk, and there she was!

14. It's normal. Don't worry about it too much.
I have trouble with over eating myself, but it is a serious eating disorder. However, I've heard that a lot of people who kick smoking gain a bit of weight after they quit because they can taste food better. Maybe that is the case with you?

Hope it was by yourself. AA is addicting by its very nature.

12. No, not by myself. I was practically carried out of here on a stretcher,
and have no memory of my first 3 days in the hospital. Didn't come back home for 60 days.

AA is just fine with me, thanks anyway. :)

22. Life sure is different. It's real, up close and personal. It's not easier,
but it's real. And it can be what you make of it. But one way or another, you see it clearly. So enjoy it.
We have to take life on life's terms.

23. Heartiest congratulations! It has been 24 years+ off tobacco and
60+ days off alcohol for me. I feel good about it though and think I may have alcohol behind me as well. AA has been helpful for me. Stick with it.

I'm looking forward to earning my 90 day chip.

Getting a good sponsor has been very helpful for me.

39. How life is different .... where to start!
Well, I'll spare the drunkalog and the consequenses of that.

Differences are:
Having a regular schedule
Better rest (much better)
Less depression
More reliable
Much more active
New friends, good ones
I actually laugh and have FUN now
Extra $$$ for treating myself now and again
Healthy food instead of subsistence on crap.

Downside:
I've put on 60 pounds. So I've joined the gym now.

34. Way to go, Lil Missy!!!
Couldn't happen to a nicer person. Enjoy the new life!
May I add, when you want a smoke, take a couple deep breaths. Really worked for me.
As for me, no smokes for 35 years, no drink for @ 15.
One day you will just forget you ever drank or smoked!

40. Hey neighbor!
:pals:

Oh boy, the nicotine cravings are a bitch. I think I may have cheated last week had I not been snowed in. Then I was gonna bum a smoke from a freind at a meeting last week, and she didn't show up! So I wasn't meant to have one that day. So far a month without cheating. That's another reason I joined the gym - to get some exercise and some of that lung capacity back.

42. i haven't had a alcoholic drink in 12 years, or a cigarette in probably 20 years...
Edited on Wed Dec-30-09 02:02 PM by dysfunctional press
but i do go through about an ounce of weed every week.

i had to give up alcohol when i started taking methadone for chronic pain. 50-70mg/daily.
i only have one liver, and it can't handle both.
