Seriously, the most horrifying movie I've ever seen. I wish I never watched it.

2. I didn't realized it was a remake from a foreign film in 1997
It is such a disturbing film. Thing is, there's hardly any blood. It's the off camera stuff that gets you.

3. That is what he said
The violence is implied and yet so disturbing. He said what upset him most was there was no motive, and no consequences for the violence.

4. I guess I didn't understand it.
We're Peter and Paul omnipotent or super villains or something? Perhaps it's part of the movie's charm, but I never understood their motivation. And because the only characters I identified with ***spoiler alert*** end up dying, I really didn't take anything away from it other than "life is cruel". I love scary flicks and horror films, but I don't know what to think of this one.

6. I think part of the horror was trying to figure out who they were
Did they meet in prep school, a mental institution or were they life long friends? They had no motivation; just sick fucks out to perfect a game they were playing. Man, it's gonna take a while for that movie to leave my head.

5. According to the trailer, the motive was a bet, thus imitative, competitive behavior.
In Girardian theory, this is the motive of all human violence. Competition between two parties becomes too intense, so they find a third party to aim their violence at, thus uniting the two original competitors against the chosen victim(s).

I wonder if Girard gets tired of being right all the time.

7. I'm surprised I'd never heard of that movie til it popped up on HBO.
Scarier than any Elm Street flick.

9. I made myself watch it even tho it was soooo f'n uncomfortable to sit there
I don't think Mr Gray and I said a word to one another the entire time we watched it. It was too gruesome for words.

11. They kept leaving hints of hope, like a forgotten knife in the boat, a suggestion that
one of the murderers couldn't swim, etc but then they'd do the exact opposite of what usually happens in films where one of the family members gets away and saves everyone. Right up to the last scene the film kept dashing our hopes of anything good happening. Does that answer your question?

14. Believe me, it was difficult.
I kept getting up to go into the kitchen for a few seconds of relief. I kept believing that there'd be some salvation. I paid for it last night as it kept me awake til 4 am.

12. Unless extremely well aimed, a Big Bertha like that really does not hurt that much
A seven iron, that is a deadly weapon. Big Bertha with the foam core slaps more than causes a bone break.
