I now use a two sided safety razor.
I got tired of those multi-blade models costing more and more. The last time I bought blades for my Schick ultra-extra super-duper it was over $2 a blade! Screw that. 10 for $1.99. That's what I'm talking about, and they last longer. Use a nice shaving brush and a bar of shaving soap that lasts for months, and it's fun to shave again.

2. I use one of those sharpeners 'As seen on TV' and use baby oil or
hair conditioner as the 'soap.' I get @ 3 to 4 months (@60 shaves or so) out my razor and all good, comfortable shaves.
I just started my 4th blade for 2009. I like the 4 blade Schick.

I know I am goofy, but 5 or 6 shaves per blade really pissed me off.

4. What are you, from 1958?
The only thing safe about those razors is if you accidentally slam them in the drawer they don't break

8. They're great if you're a disaffected rock star and have to shave all the hair off of your body
Otherwise, I'll pass.

13. Straight blades are where it's at.
They'll last you a life time if you take care of 'em. Also, they'll provide a damn smooth shave if you keep it properly honed.

7. I hung up a lawn mower from the ceiling of my shed
I fire that baby up, tilt my head to one side, then walk under it.

Then I tilt my head the other way and repeat.

9. I've been using one for about three years now.
Bought a 1956-model on ebay (It's as old as I am.)

My only complaint is that the handle is a little short for my taste.

Other than that, once you get used to taking your time and using short strokes (SHAVING strokes, you pervs) it's a great, inexpensive shave.

14. I use bump-guard razors
look for them in the ethnic section of your pharmacy.

The razor for black men.

It is the best thing out there.

Sure the shave ain't close, but there are no in-grown hairs.

Well worth it..

16. Now you need a medicine cabinet with a slit in the back to throw away the old blades
Edited on Fri Dec-18-09 05:06 PM by Jersey Devil
I used to have one of those and often wondered what would happen when the house got really, really, really old and the wall studs filled up to the slit with old blades.

"Safety razor" - LOL, better watch out because I'm old enough to remember just how much damage those "safety" rasors could cause to a face. Make sure you have a Styptic Pencil to stop the blood.

Everything old is new again. :D

18. I've gotten to see a couple of houses being renovated where they removed
those kind of cabs with the slits and the walls, and down at the bottom on the plate stud there would be a pile of razor blades. Nothing even close to say, waist high, but they may exist.

17. My dad used the same method.
He claimed that carefully* applying nose oil to the blade edges kept them sharp much longer.
When I was a little girl I used to carry on conversations with him sometimes as he shaved, and he'd scoop some lather off of the brush with his finger and dab a white moustache and goatee onto my face. I liked to shave it off with my toothbush handle. :D

* carefully !!!
