1. That just looks like broccoli that bolted to me. The rabbit likes it.
He loves him some greens.

2. It is a weird hybrid, I'll admit. But they're in the same family, so...
when I used to joke that caulifower is "just albino broccoli", I was more correct than I imagined.

6. It is one of the least useful brassicas as far as I'm concerned.
Mustard and turnips are far better brassicas. And as far as cauliflower goes, I've taken a liking to the light green "fractal spiral" type. It looks weird as hell, but it has a more mild flavor and holds up better when reheated.

On a "oops, don't do that again" note: One year for Thanksgiving, I decided to steam regular white, purple, and orange cauliflower together, thinking I would get something similar in appearance to a three bean salad. D'OH! They all turned a sickly gray. Not even I could eat it with my eyes open.

10. I'll bet you used an aluminum pot
It's what I did -- hey, I was 18. Anyhoo, I cooked up some purple cabbage in an aluminum pot and it turned blue.

I don't think those items would turn color otherwise . . . but I'd like to find out.

12. No, actually it was an all plastic vegetable steamer.
The purple just ran into the white and orange much in the way a new sweater might in the wash. It was really a morbid gray mixture.

5. Sucks
I accidentally bought it (twice) for the garden thinking it was broccoli. Gotta read the labels more carefully next year.

8. It tastes best raw ...
... does not cook up well. I feel the same way about cauliflower though.
