3. I've always wondered why it wasn't included in the food pyramid.
Seems obvious, doesn't it?

7. It would be an insult to beer to lump it in the food category
Also, the sheer size of the beer segment would completely screw up the whole pyramid thingy...

8. We could just replace the whole damn thing.
Put the good stuff like ales, lagers and stouts in the large part near the bottom and work up toward piss-water beers like Budweiser at the top.

9. Everyone knows beer makes you smarter. Well, us beer drinkers know anyway...
A herd of buffalo can move only as fast as the slowest buffalo. When the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and the weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular culling of the weakest members.

In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first.

In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

I have a friend who used to work at National Institutes of Health. She lobbied hard to add it as a food group to their triangle diagram. She left in defeat.
