Need some BOOK SUGGESTIONS for holiday gift.
I need to buy a book for someone who like to read big heavy books with lots of pages and words.
One of their favorite books in recent memory was Hot, Flat & Crowded by Thomas Friedman.

In the past I tried to buy a book for this person and failed miserably. I've been trying to stay up for the guests on the daily show hoping there will be an author on but not having any look with that.

Due to lack of free time I don't read a lot. Please help.

1. Oh dear. You can't give us anything more than that?
Can you do a search on Amazon and see if this person has a wish list? Can you check their bookshelves? There's a lot out there in that category. :) What does he/she do for a living?

11. They don't have a wish list. I don't think they have ever even gone to amazon.com before.

I can't check their bookshelves as they are 12 hours away.
They are an accountant. They have no interests. They do absolutely zero for fun. Well, other than drink heavily.

2. I suggest that you ignore all suggestions in this thread.
The only people that will post secretly work for publishers.

They're just trying to unload product, regardless of how good or bad it is.

3. Have you checked out
the book forums on DU? There's both a fiction and a non-fiction forum. Lots of good suggestions there. :hi:

4. Does your friend like history?
I highly recommend Wings: A History Of Aviation From Kites To The Space Age, by Tom D. Crouch.

Good luck in your search!

15. The Ken Burns "National Parks" book?
Based on the TV program, It's got lots of words AND pictures. Certainly big and heavy, too.

18. That looks promising but I don't think they like looking at pictures as much as reading lengthy text

20. Well, seems to include lengthy text, maps and diagrams, too! :)
But maybe they'd prefer 408 pages of "Going Rogue" instead.
