What the HELL is going on lately?
I usually get 1 or 2 junk e-mails (that go into my junk e-mail folder to be nuked) about every other day.

But lately I'm getting 3, 4 or 5 or more a DAY! :wtf:

Anyone else notice this?

3. Spam is a never ending battle
spammers find loop holes and new ways of sending and network admins and programmers counter the new moves. Plus there is always a chance you gave out your email to someone who sold it.

5. That's actually mostly correct ...

When I worked in the industry, our SPAM filters always went into overtime meltdown mode during this part of the year.

It's a lot of little things combined, a big one being that a lot of new botnets get put into service this time of year so that those controlling them benefit from a period where consumers are more in a spending mood, attuned to looking for "deals" and effectively less on-guard for scams. I'd bet if you dug, you'd find some story on the tech blogs about this.

New botnets coming online also mean the SPAM filters aren't configured to detecting them as well.

I could go on ... like I said, lots of little things.

7. That many? Whoa!

I end up with 80-100 a day most of the time. That was the cost of having my email as the contact person for events and activities for our peace and justice group. If your email is out there on a website for any reason, it's always best to make sure it doesn't fit the standard email addy format so that it isn't recognized by the robot webcrawlers that harvest them.

:hi:
