10. Suicide is not "selfish", nor is it irresponsible.

Actual suicide and suicidal thoughts mean that your brain can determine no other way out of your misery.

It means that your brain is not working properly. It means that your thought processes are messed up. Your physic pain is magnified in a way that cannot be understood unless you have experienced it yourself.

Since people who have never experienced these types of thoughts are not capable of truly getting their heads around this, comments like irresponsible and selfish are often used.

And what Forkboy said above is entirely correct...adding guilt to the equation is not useful.

I'm speaking as both a suicide survivor, and as a major depressive who has had to come to grips with suicidal thoughts.

11. I feel awful when people suffer so much that they think suicide their only option.

But there's a little of me that says, in this case, "Morrisey? I wouldn't miss him. Might improve the collective unconscious to have him gone."

Still, suicide is no laughing matter and a sign of a person who is so struggling, so suffering, so miserable that life is unbearable. My heart goes out to them, and I hope that they do find the solace and peace they so desperately sought.
