...I'll pick Cracker Barrel. Conservative types tend to frequent it, and I love good debate while eating.

6. Chicken fried steak is everywhere
Most of the the diners here in L.A. serve it, and I am talking about indie joints, not just chains.

It's southern in origin, but widely popular.

And they have a cool store - their corn meal is the next best brand to Martha White's. :9

7. And, all of their decorative stuff for the holidays?
Goes on sale at 40% off WAY before the actual event. I got a bunch of Thanksgiving stuff there. Prices are great to start with; 40% off is AWESOME!!!

Tomorrow? I'm hoping the snowman stuff is on sale. My Christmas stuff is mainly snowmen because you don't need to take it down right away.

They don't have them in CA, and I never saw any in WA when I lived there. AZ had one near me, but that was over 4 years ago. First ate at one in TN back in '78, and still have the Gee-Haw-Whimmy-Diddle toy I bought there. (Bonus Festivus Pole Dance for anyone who knows what the hell I am talking about).

Cracker Barrel has Chicken Pot Pie, which is available on Wednesdays during lunch only.

Olive Garden has unlimited salad. Yes, it's a chain, but seriously? Who the fuck cares?

Chik Fil A serves chicken nuggets with the best buffalo sauce and unsweet tea known to man.

Learn it. Love it. Live it.

51. I'm not a huge Olive Garden fan either, but
the few times I've been there, I walked away full for not a lot of money. I might actually like the other two better if I tried them, but for now Olive Garden is the only one on the list I know has passed the "bang for the buck" test. Not great food, but I didn't feel ripped off. That's honestly all I ask for a low to mid-range restaurant.

58. I can respect that. I prefer the unknown
I do not get the Olive Garden hate here, and from what I can tell it is mostly hyperbolic. The food I have had there was ok, never had a complaint. I find them overpriced for the food I have received there, and the main saving grace was that I have never been the one paying.

74. It's my understanding that
apparently someone posted "Going to NYC, any restaurant recommendations?", and someone opened Pandora's Box by recommending a Manhattan Olive Garden. It was explained to me that the responses in that thread were as vitriolic as they could possibly get. I think that's the source of the hate, but please don't take my word as gospel here.

I prefer the known, especially now that I'm unemployed and that I can leave the Olive Garden as full as can be on ten bucks.

and I know exactly where it is without looking it up, but it isn't close enough to justify going to very often. The other two are available in DFW, but I have no idea where, and I doubt I would choose either one anyway. At least ChikFilA has the drive thru option. :)

My ex was veggie, and she loved it... pancakes, or various sides like sweet potatoes or okra. I think you can get a veggie meal which is basically any three sides.

But yes, they specialize in offramp locations.

29. It sounds a bit like a chain found only in Texas
(although they appear to have restaurants in Tennessee, too) - The Black-Eyed Pea
I like Black-Eye Pea; they have a good veggie selection. I'll have to "grill" them about how they cook their veggies though. It's been a while since I've eaten there, and as I've discovered recently, veggie preparation changes with the restaurant. I remember eating with coworkers at Luby's Cafeteria once and finding out that they cooked most of their veggies with meat :( Yeah, that doesn't work for vegetarians, guys...

I know there is or was a Cracker Barrel waaaaay out in Katy a few years back, but it never was open, like either permanently shut down, or "permanently" under remodel. And it was on an off-ramp away from everything else ;)

55. Your level of thrillseeking depends on how much you trust your server.
From the menu:

*We want to make sure you know that some of our offerings, like Turnip Greens, Green Beans, Corn Muffins, Hashbrown Casserole and Pinto Beans, are made the old-fashioned way using meat seasonings and are not strictly vegetarian. Please ask your server about any particular dish if you have any questions.

Chic-Fil-A, i don't care for at all... don't like the flavor that the peanut oil gives to the meat. It's sweet or something.

Cracker Barrel? Aside from still harboring a certain amount of latent ill-will for their anti-GLBT personnel practices in the 80's-90's, i don't think much of them. Besides, I AM a southern country kind of cook... anything they can do, i can do better.

72. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN OLIVE GARDEN!!
Olive trees grow in heavily acidic soil and their presence makes matters worse. Nothing else grows around olive trees, which being trees group in an orchard or grove, not a garden.

75. I recently ate lunch at Olive Garden because I really wanted some pasta.
The sauce was not terrible at all, altho I make better at home. The salad needs an upgrade...I don't think iceberg lettuce cuts it if you are having a pasta dish. The bread was good, altho I try not to eat too much of it.

Don't have to twist my arm to eat there. Unless Red Lobster was on the list, mmmmm cheesy biscuts!
