Let me know what you think of how it ends. I was a little disappointed, that's all I'm going to say right now.

13. Finished it Saturday. The ending was, well...(no spoilers)
The ending was...odd. Didn't really fit with the rest of the book, in my opinion.

I also read the author's note hoping King would admit that he was inspired by "The Simpsons Movie" but, alas, it was not to be.

15. I am sad. I think I have read almost everything he has written and I can't read this book.
:-( I am only about 1/5 of the way into it and I'm finding it too depressing.

I finally put it down today. I might try picking it up in another month or so if I'm in a different state of mind.

16. It is definitely dark ... but all of his books are to different degrees...
...and this is definitely a reflection of how wrong society could go under the same circumstances. :hi:

20. Yeah, I kind of feel like I've lived it the past 8 years, that's why
I'm finding it difficult to read - very low tolerance for power grabbing evil politicians and religious fundamentalists.

I'd rather read about scary clowns :-)

29. If I understand the terms of membership correctly, you're paying more for the book . . .
. . . than the $14.00 + 3.99 shipping and handling Amazon charged me. I mean: If I understand the terms
of membership, members agree to pay 14.98 plus shipping and handling for any new Stephen King book.

If, however, I'd have known about this book club years ago, I'd have taken advantage of the discounts on
his old books. Too late now! I read 'em already.

30. It's only 7.99 for this book...plus 2 gifts and shipping....
...all the rest you choose from the list of all his books which are sent about every 6 to 8 weeks...then any new releases are automatically sent...are 14.98 plus shipping.

I already read his oldies but wanted to own them all to read again...and they look stellar on my shelves. :)

32. I think I know what you mean when you say "...they look stellar on my shelves."
Edited on Thu Dec-03-09 09:27 AM by Petrushka
Except for one out-of-print book---The Siege of 318---which was selling for $200 and more
a year or so ago, I had all of the books written by Davis Grubb on one of my bookshelves.
Then, a couple days ago, when I was searching amazon.com for Stephen King's Under the Dome,
I looked for The Siege of 318 again . . . found a used, collector's copy for $50 (other
copies going for anywhere from $72 to $125). NOW, when I checked again---unbelievable!---I find
a NEW copy of The Siege of 318 can be purchased for $13.75 . . . when it becomes available,
of course. What happened in the past two or three days? Hm-m.

Edited to add:
Most of Davis Grubb's stories take place in my home-county; and, FWIW, 318 was the house number
on Grubb's boyhood home in Moundsville WV. Also: Two of his books became movies which were, in part,
filmed in our home-county: Night of the Hunter; and Fools Parade.

...never read it but the movie freaked me the fuck out! :scared:

Your guess is as good as mine about how they make the decisions they do in regard to out of print/previously owned books.

There is nothing that King has written that I have not liked. A couple of his books were mediocre, but good anyway.
