Dan ACKROYD's Crystal Skull vodka -- the BOTTLE
Edited on Sun Nov-29-09 10:11 AM by UTUSN
When I posted that I wanted to find this marketing gimmick, I neglected to mention that I wasn't interested in the VODKA, only in the BOTTLE (the MacGUFFIN). Also, somebody brought up the movie and said it was the worst of the Indiana Jones franchise, and I wouldn't know, since I didn't see it and don't care about it, only the BOTTLE!1

Dan learned long ago that the secret (him and other celebs) is to MAKE MONEY off of whatever gimmick. So here it is. The link to it for me is Hamlet's Yorick.

On Edit: Oh, he studied the crystal skulls thing long before the movie:

http://www.theskullwhisperers.com/id61.html

In an interview with Dan Aykroyd, he states:

Regarding Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: "I didn’t realize the Indiana Jones movie was about the crystal skull legends, which I have followed for 13 years. We designed a skull-shaped bottle from Bruni glass, an art piece which I think everyone will want. (The vodka) is a pure spirit from Newfoundland glacial pool water, and peaches and cream corn mash. We’re releasing it in October and calling it the 'Crystal Head Vodka'.”

In the video on the official website of Crystal Head Vodka, Dan Akroyd talks about the crystal skulls as follows:

"Scientists estimate that it took between 300-500 years to carve one of these skulls from a single piece of quartz."

"Navajo believe that the crystal skulls were bestowed on their people as a gift from higher beings not of this Earth as a means of cataloguing sacred cultural knowledge from the past, assessing the present, and foretelling the future."

"Contrary to the common perception of a skull as representing death, the people from these cultures - the Aztec, Mayan and North American First Nations, for whom these artifacts possess sacred and mystical properties - associate the crystal heads with a life-affirming symbology. In ancient tellings, the heads are living and sentient, sources of knowledge, insight and power."

"The Mexican 'Day of the Dead' is an example of how, in Latin America, the skeleton is celebrated as an icon representing life beyond our corporeal existence."

1. Actually, Dan, ""Scientists estimate..."
...that the crystal skulls are hoaxes made very recently. I had no idea that you are a whackjob.

5. I hope that the "Bruni glass" that Mr. Ackroyd says they use for the bottles is NOT
real lead crystal. Because if you keep anything drinkable in lead crystal containers for very long, the lead will leach out into the drink and
slowly poison you.
Of course, Vodka will slowly poison you too, but a lot more slowly.
Cheers.

6. at the british museum they showed us a crystal skull and said it was a hoax
Edited on Sun Nov-29-09 02:51 PM by pitohui
anyways, it doesn't take any 300 years to make a rock crystal carving, sheesh
-- how long does he think it would take to make a jade carving if it's that tough to carve rock crystal? (rock crystal is much easier to get a final polish)

that said, cool bottle, i wouldn't mind having one for my bottle collection

the "affordable" rock crystal skulls i've seen for sale over the years were crude and just not good enough to join my crystal collection

7. Actually,
Scientist do not estimate it took 300-500 years to carve one of these skulls. Scientists estimate that the skulls are a hoax made with modern tools.

8. I would love vodka that came in a bottle like that.
Well, I love almost any vodka. I think there is one rotgut vodka I tried once that I hated, but any vodka from the quality of Popov on up is good. Keep Vladimir, that shit sucks.

I'm rambling. I miss vodka.

That bottle is kickass cool looking though.

10. The vodka is
surprisingly good. No after burn from drinking it in shots, and it is an excellent mixer. It runs $49.95 a bottle here.....and I drank almost half of one last nite.

11. Aykroyd is nothing if not enthusiastic
I didn't know that was his brand.

DANNY!!!

BTW- you should read Tom Davis's memoirs it gives a great insight into Aykroyd back in the day "No one can find a lens like Danny" (you HAVE to read the story leading up to that line)
