Today's College Football Thread
For most FBS teams this is the final week of the regular season, and it's full of in-state matchups and other rivalry games. Highlights include:

Early Games
Clemson at South Carolina
North Carolina at North Carolina State
Mississippi State at Mississippi
Oklahoma State at Oklahoma

Afternoon Games
Florida State at Florida
Virginia Tech at Virginia
Miami at South Florida
Arizona at Arizona State
Utah at Brigham Young
Missouri at Kansas

Evening/Night Games
Georgia at Georgia Tech
Notre Dame at Stanford (Charlie Weis's last game?)
UCLA at USC

So who does your team play? What games are you looking forward to?

1.  So who does your team play? -- Arizona
Edited on Sat Nov-28-09 12:19 PM by JonLP24
What games are you looking forward to? --- currently watching Clemson at South Carolina

Oklahoma State at Oklahoma

Since I will be watching ASU-UA I'm interested in the outcomes of the afternoon games-Florida State at Florida/Miami at South Florida/Utah at Brigham Young

For the rest of the day looking forward to all 3 of the night games especially Stanford-Notre Dame I look forward to most.

3. does that ASU-UA game/rivalry have a nickname?
Seems odd I don't know that, but I guess I don't.

All those games look good--should be a good day of football! :hi:

5. It's often referred to as the "Duel in the Desert"
Edited on Sat Nov-28-09 01:09 PM by JonLP24
and it's played for the "Territorial Cup" which is the oldest traveling trophy in the NCAA first awarded in 1899. At first it was a championship trophy for the Arizona Territorial Football League back when Arizona Normal School(ASU's first name) back when they played against high school teams such as Tempe High School(which I briefly attended and is down the street on Mill Avenue from Arizona State) and which the Arizona Normal School won. It also went missing somewhere in the 80's.

Arizona currently leads the series 45-36-1.

2. I want to see the ASU-UA game
Good rivalry there, with lots of mutual hatred and two teams who now really have nothing to loose. Heck, I'm even going to watch the Apple Cup because I was raised in Seattle and love the tradition.

Not too many games strike me a compelling this week and the few that did have already been played.

4. This year's Apple Cup doesn't seem quite as meaningful as last year's
When both teams were trying to avoid going winless against D-1 teams :) But I've always liked that game and tradition too.

we might not go bowling.

8. I don't think they'll snub you guys *if* that happens
You got wins over Central Michigan(best MAC team so far), Oregon State(who may win the Pac10), Stanford(who has impressive wins), and bowl eligible UCLA.

Besides the Poinsettia Bowl has a Pac-10 team tie in after the Rose Bowl, Holiday Bowl, Sun Bowl, Emerald Bowl, Las Vegas Bowl, and then the Poinsetta Bowl for the #6 Pac 10 team. Even if Arizona falls to #7 in the Conference they'll land in the Humanitarian Bowl.

9. I was reffering to the recently dashed hopes of a Rose Bowl
I want to see UA win today too, the more bowl eligible pac-10 teams the better

And my inability to spell seems to be legendary.

10. Oklahoma is up 10-0 against OSU
Been kind of an ugly game thus far, but DeMarco Murray scored a touchdown on a pretty impressive leap from the five yard line. (An impressive leap, though it was questionable whether or not he actually got the ball inside the pylon ...)

Edited on Sat Nov-28-09 02:36 PM by JonLP24
The Wolfpack just went 90 yards in 4 plays to go up 28-27. Might want to check it out during halftime of the game you're watching. :)

13. thanks for the heads-up
I had been watching South Carolina-Clemson on the game TV, but I don't know why, since that game hasn't really been interesting.

So I switched to the UNC-NC State game. Kind of weird that UNC went for it on 4th and 10 there with so much time left in the game, isn't it?

15. Interesting
NC State went for it on 4th and 13 inside FG range with 23 seconds so North Carolina needs 2 points to win but they have no timeouts. Oooh North Carolina threw an interception as I was typing this. NC State wins 28-27.

31. Eh, I wouldn't be too nervous if were you
Kyle Williams has been a bright spot for their anemic offense but overall they play flat. Too bad Williams is gone next year but Gerrelle Robinson looks like a good candidate to replace him and McGahee. They really need strong QB play next year and with their defense they should be able to contend.

I will add Arizona is now moving the ball well.

43. how's the basketball team looking?
At least that'll kill some time between now and August. :toast:

(Incidentally, Oklahoma has already lost to Virginia Commonwealth, San Diego, and Houston, so I'm not sure the basketball season will provide the kind of compensation I was hoping for when this football season is over. Oh well, they're young, so hopefully they get better as the season progresses...)

44. Basketball team actually looks really good
In the Dick's Sporting Good NIT they were tied with Duke with 10 minutes left however Duke pulled away and won 64-53 but still impressive imo considering the competition where that team beat UConn by about 12 points. In the third place game they crushed LSU by 19 points and they are 5-1 so far with their only loss to #7 Duke.

I'm excited and THEY WILL finish higher then #7 in the Pac 10 which is what they were projected to finish. :woohoo:
