Am I the only one that had a GOOD thanksgiving?
I had a nice day, my parents were very cool about my new vegetarian lifestyle and cooked accordantly. We don't DO politics.

I had a great day... did anyone else???

1. I did.
My next door neighbor cooked the turkey, I made the spuds, another neighbor made the rest. :9

We all ate good and watched the Packers maul Detroit. :woohoo:

After the game, I had a full belly and I laid down and *CLUNK* I was out like a light, and when I woke up, Charlotte, my new kitten was laying near my head, rumbling away. :loveya:

Watched some tube, (NO FUCKING NEWS!) and later on, much later on, went to bed.
Slept like a log.

3. I also had a good Thanksgiving.
My daughter had to work from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and my son-in-law had to be at work at 8:00 PM. So we ate dinner around 3:00 PM and had a good time hanging out together.

I made turkey, cornbread and sausage dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, broccoli with cheese sauce, and homemade dinner rolls. We enjoyed this with wine.

No drama, no problems. Good times.

4. Really great
My first Pennsylvania Thanksgiving was, shall I say memorable.

Turkey (of course), fresh venison, spuds, etc. Yummy!!

ABSOLUTELY no politics.

Heaven.

6. My dear Texasgal!
Nope, you were not the only one!

We had a ball with our friends!

Great food, great company, great view!

The ONLY downside? We had to travel some distance...but the traffic wasn't very bad most of the way out and back...

:hi:

12. Giving up dairy is BRUTAL
I tried to go vegan for a while and failed.

I suggest remaining veggie for a while and deciding what you can and can't live without.

16. Congratulations!
Wow, 8 months. How fantastic. Do you feel a bit different now as opposed to then.

Going vegetarian has nothing to do with eliminating cheese, so no bother there. Cheese is a toughy to get past. You've come so far, and I'm so pleased and proud of you!

8 months!!!!

38. actually... I feel really GOOD.
I was a red meat eater, I would say atleat once a week. I started weaning myself off slowly, adding beans and other protiens and finally I just stopped everything... even eggs. I feel REALLY good though, and I've lost some weight! Thank you for support!!!

9. we had a great day
my husband and i went to my dad's house and spent the day with my sister, a close friend of my sister's, my dad's girlfriend and her two daughters. the turkey was the best we've ever had (brined it over night and stuffed a pound of rosemary and garlic compound butter under the skin) and my pecan pie came out perfectly.

the only snag was when i accidentally set fire to the marshmallows on the sweet potatoes while trying to melt them under the broiler

and yes, i have relatives all over the political spectrum. that does exactly ZERO towards making our family get togethers less pleasant. i've seen more than a few posts about how people dread their right wing relatives, etc. and i just don't get that.

anyway, great company, great food, etc.

otoh, man do the raiders SUCK!!!

11. It's possible
Somehow I managed to have TWO arguments with my mom about getting up from the table and doing dishes while I'm still eating. One for dinner and one for dessert.

*PLUS* a bonus argument about complaining within 2 minutes of beginning to look at birds today. Don't even ask. x(

20. I had a good one
because I successfully managed to beg off going to the in-laws. It's the first Thanksgiving in decades that I didn't spend 12 overnight hours cooking.

It was just me and the dogs, for whom I cooked a treat of soupbones. I had a whole day to play guitar and fool with the computer. A lovely day.

23. It was great, actually
A lovely day of cooking, eating, and hanging out with family, followed by several rounds of pinochle. For some reason, it's only the people who had awful Thanksgivings that talk about it.

24. Mine was great. Better than I hoped for. My dad was happier and healthier than in years
He just had a bad knee replaced and it has improved his whole outlook, and made him much stronger and happier. It was the first time I'd seen him since the operation.

My sister cooked and went out of her way for my vegetarian lifestyle, too. And for my daughter's, who is recently veg.

As for politics, I converted my family to liberalism long ago. :)

26. We had a great day.
We got married last sunday. So my wife decided she wanted to have some friends over for our first thanksgiving as a married couple. It was a really good day. The food turned out great and we all had a good time. Our dogs even acted good. Which is very abnormal for them.

28. Mine didn't go bad
Ate too much on Thursday, watched my High School Alma Mater win their District Title, caught up on my sleep.
About the only the only real bumps in the road were some confusion after the game Friday about when and what we were having for dinner and a small kerfluffle with my Mom over my Brother.

29. Ours was very nice
At my brother's place jus north of NYC, my kids drove down from Boston and Uncle flew up from Florida. Had a nice Turkey day and went into the city yesterday. Everyone is getting along great.
My daughter went vegan several months ago and we're all making sure she has good stuff to eat with the rest of us.

31. You're not alone, I had a good Thanksgiving.
My immediate family, with the exception of my twin brother, have all died over the past few years. After the initial grief I realized that I was able to be with these people through most of my forties, so when I think about them it's mostly good memories. Also a couple of them were very ill for a long time and my mom died quickly, just the way she always wanted to go.

I now spend holidays with my in-laws. They live up one the coast in Mendocino. I did most of the chopping and prepping for my mother-in-law. I also did most of the clean up. We took a bunch of nice hikes around the cliffs. We drank a lot of really good wines. My wife got to spend some time alone with her mother.

Unfortunately, as they've gotten older they've got a lot more liberal/progressive so we couldn't have any spiteful political arguments.
The only negative, aside from a four hour drive with our antsy dog in my lap, was that once again my father-in-law didn't take me out to the dumps. When we go up there in summer we usually make a trip or two to the dumps. oh well there's always Christmas.

I actually celebrated it a day late, when both of my kids got into town. We had a wonderful day. It's rare to have them both home at the same time, so we all enjoyed it.

34. Our Thanksgiving "Dinner and a Movie" went well.
The wee one turned six months a little bit ago, and was cranky all morning while we fixed Thanksgiving dinner (which was to be served at lunch) for Mrs. Robb and myself, simple holiday.

Five minutes before the turkey came out, the kiddo decided it was time for her nap. And she slept for almost three hours.

...By the time she woke up, the dishes were done. And she was in a spectacular mood for the rest of the day.

So, I guess, I had a fantastic Thanksgiving. We got to eat! :D

36. I did. Dinner with friends -
I eat side items that don't have meat - and that's fine with me. I get along fine on mashed potatoes and stuffing and vegetables.

Friends were well-behaved (meaning there wasn't a lot of discussion of my friends' conversion to Orthodox Judaism, which annoys my wife).

Called my mom briefly, which was cool - my parents are generally pretty easy to deal with.

Won the trivia game we played.

Only thing that wasn't great was that I didn't get to watch football, seeing as I have no friends who care about football, I didn't feel like I should force them to watch it.

39. We are orphans. It was great day.
Parents long deceased on both sides, crazy family members and all grown kids on the other coast.
So for several years now we have had a deliciously quiet holiday experience,
just the way we want it.
In the past, on both sides, very dysfunctional family issues. Yet, they insisted everyone
"had to " do the group Thanksgiving thing.
Now, just us and the fur children. Freedom.
