My son wants to try points 2 shop . com any one know if it is a scam?

1. It's not a huge scam.

But I use it with WOT on Firefox so I can avoid the worst sites. The worst I've gotten is on some spam e-mail sites and I earned enough to get a $10 book from Amazon (but the good offers dried up after that many points).

I'd use it pretty selectively and not expect to earn a ton of stuff. Only do the highly rated stuff, only use your spam e-mail and have really good anti-virus protection.
